Discussion: Conservative Writer Criticized For Washington Post's Own Error

Discussion for article #222668

Would be nice if Ponnuru would issue retractions for all the bullshit HE has written over the years… I won’t hold my breath.

I’m sorry about this as well.

And his political leaning has what to do with this issue? Or is the thought that a liberal obsessive-compulsive wouldn’t have been edited by WaPo?

He has the right to be pissed and he’s owed a correction and public apology.

First, they falsely (and arrogantly) claim their edits made the piece more accurate, then when publicly exposed they have the balls to run letters blaming Ponnuru.

That Ponnuru is a major league douche doesn’t make the WaPo editor(s) any less a douche for BS edits in his piece. All writers are entitled to be edited accurately and fairly.

Why do all these “conservative writers or pundits or activists and shit” have an expression like they just tossed some little freshman kid in the trash can?

A face that is eminently punchable.

While we’re at it, let’s reclaim the proper name of the airport closest to the home of our first president – Washington National Airport.

Yikes! But you are correct on the one hand. All the editors needed to do was add this: [sic]

I like its present name: Iran-Contra National Airport.

Wow, he must be so embarrassed to have out and out deception associated with his name. Ha ha ha ha ha…

Inserted an error in his piece? They gave him a sounding with mAnn coultergeist’s adams apple?

Yeah, I bet you will not see all the hand wringing about Reagan/Washington National huh? Also, never heard there was a “conservative” problem with Presidents’ Day until it was time for blackie to share the day. Now it’s somehow ickie. Jeez the RWNJ’s make my head explode. The issue with this whole thing should not even be about how the WAPO edited it, but should be more about shunning the a-hole for writing in the first place.

Okay, I’m actually able to comment just in time to address the least significant story of the day. But it happens to address a pet peeve of mine, so: They’re both wrong. George was great and all, but he’s not the only great president being honored on Presidents’ Day, which was created to consolidate TWO February holidays – Washington’s birthday on the 22nd and Lincoln’s on the 12th. The third Monday of the month was chosen because it always falls between the two. So while the editor may be a young ignoramus who didn’t realize there had long been a Washington’s Birthday holiday, Ponnuru is either an older ignoramus or for some reason a Lincoln-denier. Just further proof that the Confederacy really has risen again…

Whatev. The real story here is why he wants to obliterate “Presidents” and just have George Washington. Presidents day refers (in many states) to Lincoln and Washington. If conservatives have their way the guy who owned slaves will end up with a holiday, and the guy who ended slavery will get bupkis. Just as they would like. It’s all about erasing Lincoln, and nothing else.

I found some illuminating detail here: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/presidents/presidentsday.asp

Major! Totally! Blubbering, obeisant thanks to TPM and ace cub reporter Kludt for lightning response to this shocker.

considering all the lies, half-truths and distortions ponnuru and his ilk have intentionally written over the years, this is a minor error by comparison. still, it shouldn’t have been made.

Big f–ng deal.

So, let me get this straight. People still read the Washington Post? Even when I lived in DC I didn’t read this rag.

I’m flabbergasted. I can’t believe Ramesh Ponnuru was actually right about something.
