Discussion: Conservative Pundits Trash Sonia Sotomayor's Views On Race

Discussion for article #221909

More insidious than that, white America wants you to believe that racism against whites is the new normal.

Where are all of the comments going?

Has anyone ever noticed how pretty much everything angry old fearful white conservatives say about race is pure, unadulterated gaslighting? Kind of obvious in hindsight, but it was Scalia’s dissent that made me see it.

It would appear that Justice Sotomayor struck a nerve with her scathing dissent from the ultra conservative majority opinion in the Michigan case.
Justice Roberts and his right-wing cohorts have set voting and civil rights back 70 years with their rulings. It will take a good court many years to undo the harm these reactionary zealots have inflicted on our rights.
Thank God for people like MS. Sotomayor and Ms. Ginsburg

"The conservative faction of the Roberts Court has revealed itself as a bunch of naked and bare-knuckled political activists with barely even a pretense of attending to the law, and the years they has left to subvert the law will be a generation-long reminder of the violence the Bush administration has done to our constitutional order."

(Edited for accuracy)

Racism against conservative whites is the new normal. We have to be accurate about these things!

Has the National Review not heard Scalia speak recently?

Brava Justice Sotomayor! Wishing no ill on anyone – I am praying to God that one of the conservatives steps down to “spend more time with his family” so that we finally get a court that will following the Constitution instead of appointing presidents and trying to take us back 150 years.

Me too and amen. They unfortunately are too evil to step down to spend time with their families. They know how much power they wield and they love it.

+1000 for the correct use of “brava”.

Poor widdle white racist fuckwits don’t like being pointed out as white racist fuckwits.

Every time a woman in power expresses a viewpoint or announces a decision, it’s immediately dismissed and trivialized as being “emotional”. Getting really tired of the same old song from these clowns!

Really Sahil? This piece would be quite at home on Huffington Post. Reads just like a mouthpiece for the right’s attacks on the truth. Justice Sotomayor wrote a tough, no nonsense dissent to another reactionary ruling by the Robert’s Court. Last I checked no one called Scalia’s fiery dissents, “emotional” or “legally illiterate.” Or, referred to his ethnicity in criticizing him. Or question the absurdity of his “quote” of Justice Harlan. Glad to know there was no discrimination in the US, over a century ago. Apparently those racist, sexist comments escaped Mr. Kapur’s notice when he stenographically reported the Republican’s bile.
