Discussion: Congress Struggles To Break Familiar Pattern Of Inaction On Gun Violence

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) continually pivoted to talking about the “colossal break-down in the system locally”—referring to failures by police and federal agents to follow up on tips that the Florida school shooter was dangerous.

Ignoring every other incident. The only uniting feature is the availability of guns and they don’t want to acknowledge that.

Ryan also called for addressing “violence in our culture” but did not specify how he would do so.

Being uselessly helpful is a skill.

Yes, I sensed nothing will get done again.

Congress Struggles To Break Familiar Pattern Of Inaction

'Nuff said.

“I don’t have any certainty that this will help or solve the problem,”

DUH… the solution that will help (which will never happen) is to ban all assault style weapons, and buy back those that have already been sold.

Yeah let’s change the “culture” comprising of 340 million individuals and nothing to control 300 million “tools of death.” Does the Speaker think that guns have more rights than students?

And since they’ll never ever go there then ban large capacity magazines. Let’s aim for lowering the body count for starters.

I want the hardest-core gun control the constitution will allow. The only way to get it is to fight the gun-humpers with all the intensity and money they dedicate to the issue. That’s tough. For them, “guns” are a proxy for all the rest of their shitty, degraded culture. They think they’re fighting an existential battle. They’re not, but they should be. Their “way of life” needs to be exterminated as badly as the Confederacy did.

Taking the Congress away from them this year and the presidency in 2020 is our civil war. Let’s not fuck up Reconstruction this time. The instant we get power back, destroy the “gun culture “ with every legislative and judicial weapon available and underpin it with ruthless agitprop. That’s the only way anything will get done.

I’m really getting tired of the basic Republican argument being “We cannot take away the Constitutional right of Americans to own as many of any kind of gun as they want, when no single proposal will fix all the problems,” when that’s not what the Second Amendment says, while ignoring people’s right to live, and go to school, the movies, church, a concert, etc. without the threat and worry of being slaughtered.

It’s past time to repeal the Second Amendment. I know that is highly unlikely now. But, I think Democrats need to push the argument that it just no longer has any application. It was passed at a different time for a different reason - national and state defense when we did not have a standing military - and it has been perverted to give rights to ammo-sexuals that should not and do not exist. Maybe pick one or two others we no longer need and get rid of them, too, to show we are not singling out the amendment that is used to preserve the right to kill.

Inaction is not failure.

The goal of Republicans is to destroy the public school system.

Asked again about a vote on a bill to strengthen background checks, Ryan demurred. “We’re waiting to see what the Senate can do, and we’ll find out what the Senate can do, and address that then,” he said

Spineless asshole. How is this a struggle.

No argument there… but unless they get rid of the ones already out there it won’t do much good. I would imagine you agree that the body count should be 0… it sickens me that we have to deal with this at all.

I’m still waiting for everyone’s plans to improve the delivery of mental health care. Or at least one person’s plan, from one person who really has a plan, who isn’t just changing the subject. As it is, the ones making every excuse to preserve Tide Pod Eaters’ access to the semiautomatic version of a soldier’s weapon are the same wastes of carbon who voted 70 times to take away everyone’s health insurance.

Bet: The NRA will sue Dick’s for not carrying assault rifles.

Sees like Dems are letting GOP get away with saying there was a “colossal break-down in the system locally”. The media loves this line of attack since it turns into a classic gotcha story about “bureaucratic incompetence”. The truth is that if the cops did everything right they could not have stopped Cruz since he had no criminal record. This is how the system is SUPPOSED to work when having a semi-auto rifle is a right and not a privilege.

Given how thin runs the milk of human kindness in Republican veins, this should not surprise. It’s all a matter of dollars and cents (and votes) with them.

The Republicans will never have a genuine discussion on guns because they are paid not to. There are a few Dems also.

Dick’s, Major Gun Retailer, Will Stop Selling Assault-Style Rifles

Seems appropriate that the name of the stores is the same as the appendage for which the buyers are trying to compensate.
