Discussion for article #222065
It’s appalling that representative democracy is functionally morose for America. Now the process of amending the Constitution is left to the Supreme Court (between 5 and 9 people), while interpretation of the law, which should be updated all the time (e.g. tax code, environmental safety, climate change resilience, labor laws) is left to regulators. Other parts of the government are now doing the lifting that legislators should be doing. This is an interesting problem for lobbyists, as they have fewer opportunities to piggy-back their wishes into legislation and have to spend more time on who gets appointed to regulate or judge.
Who ever heard of a political party that didn’t know how to pass a highway bill in an election year? I can’t wait till the GOP goes extinct.
