Discussion: Congress Is On Course For A Fight Over Averting Government Shutdown

Discussion for article #225526

Isn’t a sign of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?

If so, shouldn’t the GOTP leader be committed to an asylum?

“Could the federal government shut down again this fall?”

In a word:Yes.
The Congress is back to its favorite trick. because they have so few of them.
And, in the best tradition of the American People, the citizenry of the United States will roll over and take it once again.Yet, they will not bother to vote. Explain it to me, I give up.

The problem is, the GOTP’s definition of “a bad situation” is any situation where it looks like Obama/Reid/Pelosi got the best of them – i.e. anything but total victory w/ impeachment letters on the side. That could hurt them at the polls almost as much as (and, possibly more than) a government shutdown.

Don’t look at me. I’ve been waiting for national outrage for the last four years, and although Obama won in '12, that wasn’t the spanking the GOTP so desperately needs.

I’d recommend the removal of their frontal lobes, but that’s been done. I think everything is just reflex responses from somewhere deep inside their repitlian brains.

“…once Congress returns from summer recess on September 8…”

Wait.

We’re paying Republican Congressmen a huge salary, generous health benefits, and a pension to do nothing for the next month?

I wonder if Ted Cruz can be persuaded to weigh in on this situation.

I really hope Congress gets its act together in appropriating funds so that our government agencies can fulfill their mission on behalf of the public.

If Boehner decides to shut the government down like he did last Oct, then I think he can kiss his job good bye. So, if Boehner and his Republican colleagues wants to bring out that government shutdown playbook. Go ahead and make my day!

“We don’t want to shoot ourselves in the foot.”

At last, a new Republican policy. I fail to see how they plan to implement it though.

…not just a month, FIVE WEEKS and three days! I get no paid vacation, how about you?

I fully expect the Republicans to shut the government down again after the election. And they will say they got a mandate to do that when they pick up seats in the House and get control of the Senate.

No shutdown before the election. Just after the election … because they’ll have a “mandate.”

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Republicans go all the way and default on the debt, too!

Ted’s a little busy whining over being mentioned in a “True Blood” fictional TV episode.

Yep, they’ll not only have a mandate to shut the Government down, they will default on the debt and vote out Articles of Impeachment over and over again.

many House conservatives, including incoming Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), are enthusiastic about shutting the bank down, bashing it as an emblem of corporate welfare and crony capitalism.

But I thought corporate welfare and crony capitalism were the GOP way. How else did George W. Bush manage to make any money? Certainly not by his organizational skills and business acumen.

And it will be breathlessly covered but this website if he does.
