Discussion: Congress Braces For A Brutal Spring

Welcome to the Republican view of government where government cannot and should not do anything while they drown the baby in the bathtub.

Trump is a vain coward and liar.

He won’t veto it, and even if he does, the public will fry him every day the shutdown of his government goes on.

Apparently the 'Beautiful Tax Cut" has some side effects for Americans abroad (Todays FT/UK has a full article about it)

“The problem is, the way the law is worded treats every American citizen and green card holder in the
world [operating through a foreign corporation] the same as Google,” said Monte Silver, a US tax attorney
living in Israel. “There’s going to be some sort of uproar” as more expats and their advisers learn about their exposure, he predicted, but “the problem is expats have no political clout”.

The entire US should be bracing for a brutal Spring — the Republicans still hold all of the levers of power and the midterms are months away. Lots of damage can and will be done between now and then, and even in the depth of their gross incompetence, the Republican base will still support these yahoos.

So, McConnell promised to bring an immigration bill to vote and if he didn’t back up his words, there was another deadline in 3 weeks. Now McConnell is saying if they use the deadline as leverage he won’t bring up the vote?

I guess that’s what Democrats get for trusting Yertle the Turtle.

It is what the Democrats get, but I seriously doubt that anyone “trusted” the conniving Kentuckian. They just wanted the shutdown to be over before they lost the blame game, or indeed had to play it seriously.

these fucktwit treason weasels have sent deficits soaring with their glorious tax cut (where’s my $1.50???!!) and can’t even keep the government open for biz. The party of business is the party of stupid toadies whose core competence is not in governing but in obstruction. They stand for nothing - full stop - besides and beyond greed, nihilism.

crazy bad grammar, but rage is making my words bad.

Bad week for Trump; Pats lose the Superbowl and now he has to deal with another shutdown.

When the Republicans talk of cutting we should ask them how many trips to the President’s properties will he forfeit?
How many members of the cabinet will cut their security details by one or two?
Should we shutter the Congressional gym?

Superb article, Ms. Ollstein.

Thank you.

As they did in January to pressure Democrats to vote for a budget that left DACA recipients behind, Republicans may once again make use of an impending health care crisis. The last short-term budget reauthorized the Children’s Health Insurance Program for six years, rescuing the program that 9 million low-income families depend on. This time, the sweetener may be a few years of funding for community health centers

Right, and despite the fatuous assurances we were given that the Democrats were playing eleven-dimensional chess while their critics on the left were barely playing checkers, the probability that the Republicans would not do this sort of thing were always close to zero.

Now the DACA deadline is really bearing down, and I don’t mean on our politicians.

Congress braces for brutal spring???
Does this mean the GOP might have to use some extra brain cells to possibly get some work done for the country instead of for there party.?
Probably not. It doesn’t seem possible anymore for the gop to contribute any work for 80% of the population.
So America, get ready, it is going to be a Brutal Spring or year for most of us.watching these idiots point fingers, lay blame and continue on accomplishing nothing for the country.
Scraping the bottom of trumps garbage can. in a year no less.

America is just too big to govern. It is time to declare the Confederacy victors and to grant their states the wish they’ve always wanted…to leave the Union and form their own nation. The only way to save the American Democracy is to push the Confederate states out and let the rest of us rebuild our Democracy.

We don’t need any of the southern red states and in fact, we’d be better off without them!

You might be better off, but what about the millions of non-Republicans who live there?
