Any of you ever heard someone try to suggest that the N-word isn’t racial anyway? People swear when they were growing up it only meant “an ignorant person.” Nothing racial about it at all, heaven forfend anyone should think such a thing. Maybe there are no racial slurs at all! Certainly that would make the world an instantly better place and solve a concern for these event organizers—just define racism out of existence, easy-peasy.

Wait - I’m confused. Since the Confederate flag stands for their noble heritage and has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with racism, why did the organizers feel compelled post a ban on racial slurs? As their very first rule, no less!

Stone Mountain is the birthplace of the Second Klan, not the Third Klan. The Second Klan was a national fraternal membership organization, kind of like a terrorist version of the Moose Lodge, founded at Stone Mountain" after Birth of a Nation opened in 1915 and amped up racists across the nation. It operated nearly openly run on a for-profit basis by its state and national leaders. It more or less collapsed in the late twenties and early thirties after a series of financial and criminal scandals (including a rape-murder by the Grand Dragon of the large Indiana chapter) that were inevitable in an organization that embraced secrecy and vigilantism and raked in a lot of dough. In its time, the Klan was immensely powerful, usually infiltrating and often controlling whichever party was dominate in a given state (e.g. Democrats in tAlabama, Republicans in Indiana).
The Second Klan was primarily an urban-centered organization, insanely pro-prohibition and primarily fixated on Jews, East European immigrants and Catholics as the main threat to Real Umerikuh, though, of course, they were always ready to lynch a black person who showed sings or uppityness or was accused of most any felony.
After its collapse, various isolated rural chapters went off on their own and shambled along with ever-declining membership, until the Civil Rights Movement caused those chapters to explode into a number of different Klan organizations commonly called the Third Klan, all of which were opposed to integration and most of which were directly linked to state and local government and law officials, operating as the “action” wings of White Citizens Councils, State Sovereignty Commissions and racist sheriff departments. They ranged from somewhat violent to extremely violent.
The modern Klans are generally considered a continuation of the Third Klan. There’s some historcal continuity with the Second Klan, certainly in their own crackerbox self-mythology, but more overtly terroristic and less overtly a swindle than the Second. It has no single birthplace.

A CSA flag rally? The CSA was all for treating blacks as property. Hold as civilized a rally as you wish, it doesn’t change what the CSA wanted and what its flag embodies, even today.
