Discussion: Condolences Pour In After George HW Bush's Death

I assume that Trump’s first prepared tweet was “no collusion,” but someone stopped him.

Probably started a tweet saying GHWB died because he didn’t give Spankee the love he deserved. But someone slightly saner grabbed his phone away after distracting him with a Big Mac.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . . . or maybe duplication is. (Someone was going to say it. I just happened to be the first in this thread.)

I can hardly wait to read the condolences for 45…

Even the dullest of people will know Trump didn’t write that, which means people will know there is zero sincerity to “his” words

I have a hard time forgetting about his Iran-Contra pardons. Apparently no one else does.

You can remember both the good (his social initiatives) as well as the bad (Willie Horton) and still recognize that he wasn’t a perfect man.

I notice Vlad’s comment has a ring of bitterness to it.

He was a two bit KGB agent on the East Berlin side of the Wall when it fell and he never got over the humiliation. Explains a lot about him now.

Strange funny that trump’s big deal is to build a wall, wonder what gave him that idea? I think the whole wall deal is Vlad’s revenge.

Late: I also like to think that H.W.'s death is good timing on his part. Took the high five with Vlad & MSB off the news cycle and replaced it with odes to a decent man that contain all kinds of contrasts to the current leaders. A truly decent way to smack down the current assholes ripping the world apart that he worked so diligently to bring together whether one supported his ways or not.

Please. Let’s not forget that wonderful campaign in 1988 when he said his opponent was un-american and in favor of crime.

These read as genuine and heartfelt (aside from Putin’s). I think it reflects Bush’s expertise in foreign affairs and his leadership on global issues which are still very much appreciated abroad, especially in comparison to some other Presidents.
