Schmitz was notable for his extreme right-wing sympathies. By one measure, he was found to be the third most conservative member of Congress between 1937 and 2002,[1] and the ultra-conservative John Birch Society, of which Schmitz was a longtime leader, later expelled him for extremist rhetoric.[2]

I tend to have some medication-induced cognitive issues with understanding complex material (e.g., scientific research documents). So I need to know, are these longer stories like this one convoluted and difficult to follow or is it just my disabled mind that’s the problem? I can’t imagine that this is so complex that it can’t be reported on clearly and concisely, yet I invariably get lost trying to follow these journalists’ trains of thought.
