Discussion: Comedy Central Introduces The Power Of 'The Daily Show With Trevor Noah'

Discussion for article #239527

I’ll wish him luck, but I probably won’t be watching. Jon Stewart was the Daily Show and it should have ended with him.

Apparently you never watched the credits after every show.

Yeah!! Jon Stewart was amazing and Trevor Noah will do admirably.

Some feel the same about Craig Kilborn. Ok, maybe they don’t.

I’ll be watching - if you think Stewart was all this show had going for it, you’re wrong - the writers were a HUGE part too. The show was every bit as good with John Oliver at the helm, and if Noah can deliver the material well he’ll do great… if not, its not the end of the world. I for one will be giving him a chance.

I thought Kilborn did all right, but it didn’t become the Daily Show until Jon sat in the chair.

Hope he does well, seems sharp enough for the job, but I hope the audience can deal with a non-'murican ass in the seat. My concern is the writers. How many of the good ones stayed, how many of the bad ones left. How will the new ones shake out.

They should have made John Oliver an offer he couldn’t refuse.

This guy is gonna suck ass.

Hope he does well but I’m a little concerned - humor doesn’t always translate across cultures. Also, although John Oliver made it work, it’s different when an American is lampooning American politics than when someone from elsewhere is doing it. But, we’ll see. I hope he’s a huge success because we need a successful Daily Show.

I know they have a staff of writers but Jon was very close to the same even when he appeared on other shows that weren’t as scripted like interviews and on O’Reilly’s show. Hope Trevor can keep things going, make it his own, and give us something good also. Most of the others that have spun off the Daily Show are certainly doing well.

Too bad Trevor Noah won’t get some of the playback on the internet as Jon Stewart did. Jon Stewart’s era was in the heyday of Adobe Flash, when it wasn’t considered to be a security threat. I wish I could watch these video clips, but Adobe Flash is not allowed on any of my computers. I don’t want the security risk.

When Comedy Central finally wakes up and dispenses with Adobe Flash, then I might get to see the Daily Show again.

I’m fairly certain Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, and Jessica Williams are sticking around. So, at least they will be familiar faces. If Noah is smart, which he clearly is, he will let those talents shine like Stewart did. That was the great thing about Stewart–he never let his ego get in the way of other people being funny. I mean look at the litany of talent that came from his show! It put out more stars than Saturday Night Live! So, Trevor just needs to add his wit to the nightly commentary, regarding current events, and let these three shine. Klepper, in my opinion, is the next mega star of the bunch. He just has that “it” factor. I wanted him to take the chair, personally, but I am very open to giving Noah a legit chance. I think he will surprise. If I have one fear with him, his stand-up is all about the differences between Americans and the rest of the world. That shtick will get old if he sticks to that. I don’t think he will though. That’s the benefit of having a filter of a writing team.

So that’s what Kanye West’s music sounds like…

A while back I watched his standup special, “Trevor Noah: African American,” on Netflix. He was very smart, very funny, and very sharp (as in yikes, ouch). I think Stewart and whoever picked this guy knew what they were doing. He’s just what we need right now. We’re gonna be OK.

This is where we have to part ways.

I’m on board with Jessica, see great things in her future. Hasan has been fine, but he hasn’t been around long enough for me to have an opinion. But Jordan is one I was hoping would go. He’s the last holdout of the old style juvenile/idiot dude-brah humor, like Courdrey and Jones used to do. Stuff is too broad and base for me. He should go to SNL. he could regurgitate a catchphrase with the worst of 'em. If you want dude stuff Rob Riggle can do that (and more) much better.

Lure back Asif and Wyatt, and drop Jordan. I’m still concerned about the writers you don’t see also - not sure how many of them are staying.

Yup, I think Comedy Central screwed the pooch with Trevor Noah…but time will tell.

OK grandpa.

The rest of us will be over here watching…at least at first.

TGoET is absolutely correct - who knew what Jon Stewart would become before we watched?

At least give the guy a chance - he is pretty good, at least at standup. And the few bits he’s done on TDS were good. Vox.com had a profile up a while ago. Not your cuppa? That’s fine, I couldn’t care less what a random intertube commenter thinks.

Or not, your choice. Ain’t Amurica wunnerful?
