Discussion: Colorado one line

Discussion for article #229748

It looks like Colorado will both defeat a personhood amendment and elect a Senate candidate who co-sponsored a personhood bill.

FFS. And looking at the results, there are quite a lot of people who voted for Hickenlooper for governor (who was supposed to be more endangered) but Gardner for Senate. Hickenlooper may still lose, but it’s extremely close, while Udall is not even close. WTF is wrong with people?

Well, that’s all she wrote. That’s 5 for Republicans and Louisiana will make at least 6.
I am now an Independent voter. I will never vote for a Republican and I will support individual Democratic candidates but the Democratic Party can kiss my ass. I will not belong to a political party whose members and supporters don’t have enough goddamned sense to realize that mid-term elections are important.

Udall would have to win by greater than 2-1 among the remaining votes in order to pull off a narrow win, if the turnout is the same as 2010. No idea what areas are left to count or what the turnout was (if it’s higher, the margin would have to be less), but it’s still an awfully high hurdle.

If Hickenlooper wins, how can Udall’s loss be called " anti-incumbency fervor" too?

I apologize for all of the idiots who voted for Gardner. I did my part to keep Udall in, it wasn’t enough. And to top it off, I’m stuck with Dipshit Lamborn again for another two years!

Udall’s a good senator, but he ran a stupid campaign. It’s a mistake to use reproductive rights as the pillar of your campaign, and assume you’ll win with all of the female votes. Gallup’s polling since the 1970’s has shown that support for abortion rights is a matter of education, not gender. In fact, a greater percentage of women than men have supported a ban on all abortions. Economic inequality should be the Democrats’ #1 issue. However, President Obama has consistently sided with Wall Street over Main Street, and working-class voters are right to complain that Democrats haven’t helped them.

Not looking good for Hick either. Bob frenchyfuck looks to be winning this.

Carville said “It’s the economy, stupid.” Obvious and obviously still true. But not to Udall & Co. (What did their experts tell them?)

Well, the upside is that two years of GOP dominance in Congress is more likely to galvanize the electorate than the split situation we’ve had lately. If the Democrats had kept the Senate tonight, they’d likely loose the White House in 2016. Liberals didn’t turn out to vote because they’re not significantly stirred up… and they’re also too busy working proper jobs (the kind that subsidize our lazy-ass brethren in the Bible Belt).

Another upside: no more bullshit legislation from the house produced with the sure knowledge that it will be killed in the Senate. These dipshit motherfuckers are going to have produce veto-worthy legislation that shows the whole fuckin’ nation exactly how idiotic they are. Good luck with that, ya goddamn buttlickin’ cunts. (Election night hot toddies hath made me lose discourse of reason. I apologize for the profanity and lack of decorum.)

i am so looking forward to the initiatives the republicans will put forward… now they can really get down to business and start cutting… eliminate unemployment/food stamps for the moochers… eliminate all corporate taxes so those marvelous job creators can create jobs… gut the assorted regulatory agencies… so much mayhem possible in the next two years. just what the duh’merican people wanted…

Bad campaign or not, I’m sorry to see Udall go. At this point I kinda hope Brownback wins in Kansas and the tea bags get to keep digging their hole.

It’s hard for someone who takes this stuff so seriously to understand how people can continue to not pay attention. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder why I can’t understand my fellow citizens.

Eh, we knew this night was going to be like this even if it didn’t sink in until the races started being called. Still I can’t help but think it’s not as bad as I felt in 2004.

Amen to the alcohol. At least Colorado makes good beer.

“Udall’s campaign didn’t run this [women’s issues] strategy out of the goodness of their heart,” [Laura Chapin]. “That was what the numbers told them to do.”

So, Udall didn’t really give a fuck about women’s rights. He thought other issues might be more important. But, he didn’t run on any of them. Because “The Numbers” were whispering sweet nothings in his ear.

So, where exactly did “Those Numbers” come from? Who on Udall’s campaign staff determined “Those Numbers” and why did the entire campaign buy into them for the entire past year?

That really makes it sound like Udall is too incompetent to hire staff that have any fucking clue as to what they are doing. That makes it sound like Udall is too incompetent to be in an elected office, in any leadership position. That makes it sound sort of like Udall is an imbecile who can’t identify important issues facing the citizens of this country today and make the case as to why they should be discussed and given priority.

It just sort of sounds like that, as if the Democrat Party is throwing him under the bus because of “The Numbers.”

I watched 100s of ads featuring the affable ,smiling " rising GOP star" and still have no clue about waht he stood for or how his “message” resonated with the people of CO.If you did happen to be women and voted for this man…why? If you value the environment in CO and don’t want the state totally controlled by big oil…how is this statue of a candidate a good choice,? Huge amounts of outside money were spent unseating Udall by the plutocrats that already control every aspect of American life. That people voted nationally to elect demonstrable do nothings to a government seated to work on behalf of the electorate is puzzling. The word is that the GOP will now work tirelessly to "get things done "Why it was not important to do this over the past six years is anybodies guess but it is pretty clear why.Radicals inclined to maintain the status quo are now running amok and the the electorate who have endorsed them (or didn’t vote!) once again demonstrated the dumbing down of America is going according to plan. These are sad and disturbing times for citizens who caare about America’s future.

Let see how long it take Gardner to introduce more “personhood” legislation. Just another POS liar.

Over 1.3 million people voted to legalize pot in Colorado, less than 900,000 people voted for Udall. Single issue voters piss me off, but hey, Colorado has legal weed, so fuck the mid terms, right?
