No, actually not in this case. Klingen as verb means to sound, but “die Klinge” is “the blade”, and is extended with an “n” to make Klingenschmied. Trust me, I know.

People like this guy (He Whose Name Dare Not Be Spelled, at Least Not Correctly), who’ve apparently been raised to think sex is the worst thing ever:

  1. Are generally incapable of thinking about sexuality (especially their own) in any practical way. These are the people who you eventually see in sex scandals that would be most notable for their immaturity, sordidness and ineptitude if one were not distracted by   their sheer hypocrisy [1].
  2. Have no moral compass, despite their endless posturing to the contrary. As their sense of right-and-wrong begins and ends in their pants (and everyone else’s), they have no outrage left over for, e.g., cruelty, lying, theft, violence, etc. (These are the people who were okay with Bush’s starting a war–hundreds of thousands of people dead and maimed, millions displaced, trillions of US dollars wasted–for no particular reason besides generating no-bid contracts for RNC donors . . . but are still fuming over Clinton’s BJ.)  The cretin in question, as you may have noticed, is not only almost entirely focused on other people’s sex lives, but considers it appropriate for parents to physically assault their TG children.
  3. Consequently cannot discern among moral differences within sexual behavior. Thus Klingenschmit conflates gay sex with rape, etc. (Similarly, bishops  who sent pedophile priests to new parishes–the same treatment they would have received for having a consensual affair with an adult parishioner.)

[1] I don’t even know if “hypocrisy” is the right word here. Hypocrites know they’re full of crap. These fools often seem to wind up in situations where they’ve stretched the bounds of reality so hard that it snaps back at them–for example, the sky-high teen birth rates in places where they insist on “abstinence education” and making contraceptives harder to get.

Honestly, most people like this guy seem to me to be either acting out on repressed childhood sexual abuse, repressing sexual urges that they believe are (and all too often actually are) deviant, are active sexual predators of one kind or another, or, most of the time, two or all of the above.

Rick Santorum, in particular, is constantly behaving like a guy who’s got some really serious, and quite unresolved, childhood sexual trauma which the conservative Catholicism has at least made worse even if it is unrelated to the cause. I honestly sometimes feel kind of sorry for the guy.
