The (even-more cowardly) Republicans in the Senate are also counting noses. Once there’s enough votes in favor of the resolution, we’ll see a pack of additional ‘yes’ voters because they know they won’t be the deciding vote that allows the measure to pass.

I think it’s closer to 5-4 with Roberts going rogue again. The other four will say by not defining “emergency” in the NEA Congress knowingly gave the president unfettered discretion to determine what constitutes a national emergency. If that was not their intent then they can pass an appropriate amendment but we do not legislate from the bench. Except in cases like Hobby Lobby or Citizens United when the clear intent of the law runs contrary to our ideology and we have the opportunity to fix it ourselves.

It just occurred to me - maybe this first veto thing is strategic? Nothing will rally the base quite like a grand show of Trumpian alpha-male hubris. He will call a grand press conference, put on a grand show. The MSM will eat it up. And the lemmings will vote for all the Senate no-votes in two years anyway because they have no long term memory and a vote for an “R” is reflexive.

I believe his approach to national security is much more malignant than just laissez-faire. He’s certainly been committed to destroying long term friendships and security alliances in favor of cozying up to despotic, authoritarian regimes and, above all, doing vlad’s bidding.
