I think it possible that both Ford and Kavanaugh are being truthful - the assault did happen as Ford describes, but Kavanaugh, who drank to excess with his prep school buddies and was wasted at parties, including this one (Ford said he and his friend were drunk and stumbling when they locked her in the bedroom), really doesn’t remember. That doesn’t excuse him, just explains why there are two differing accounts. Of course, it is also possible that Kavanaugh is just a liar.
