Collins must really want to be Maine’s governor, since she is showing unusual backbone.
We’ll see, Ms. Collins, we’ll see…
Does she want that? Maybe because she’s so old, and the job would be easier?
“So, Susie. I’ve got 321 billion dollars I’ve extracted from the blood and flesh of the poor and middle class in this bill. Would it change your mind if one of those billions just somehow wandered its way into a Swiss bank account with your name on it?”
Remember Collins said she would vote for ACA if probisions for womens health were included. These were and she obstained. She is not trustworthy.
You trust Susan Collins at your own risk.
Collins is your what is called a Repug moderate because she is against outlawing abortion in cases of rap and incest. But when it comes to all other issues, whenever it has mattered Collins has voted with the hardline right no matter the contents of the bill. My concern is that with other moderates especially women GOP senators, Collins for now is giving them cover but in the end will be putting pressure on them to cave as she has always done. That is if the past is any predictor of the future, Collins will get some barely noticeable change to the bill and she will then declare it better than Obamacare and vote for it putting pressure on other moderate and women GOP senators to do the same.
“It’s difficult to see how any tinkling on the bill will change my vote.”
No, Susan. They’re tinkling on the bill because of Cheetolini’s predilection for golden showers.
Yeah, it’s a joke.
But seriously, I still don’t believe a goddamned word this spineless POS says when a controversial vote comes up that will screw her constituents and the rest of America, and it’s not because she’s a woman - it’s because she’s an asshole, so don’t pull that “he’s such a misogynist for picking on a female senator.” No, ALL the Senate Republicans are assholes. It’s just that Susan Collins is a particularly annoying one, kinda like the female version of Not-Ever-And-Never-Will-Be-A-Maverick McCain.
There will be enough of a mess for her to clean up as governor (thanks, Paul LePage!!!) even if this bill doesn’t pass. This is the path of least resistance.
That’s what I keep saying. She wants to be governor. Who could really blame her for wanting to get the hell out of McConnell’s Senate and out from under PP’s thumb? There are also several big gubernatorial races that will be open next year, or ones with a Democratic governor up for reelection (OH, FL, PA, CO, etc), and I have no doubt there will be more than a few GOP senators looking to run.
What about some physical threats?
So, let’s review. There are a hundred senators – less if you don’t count the Dems and Indies. The GOP has had seven years to come up with a plan that 50+ members will vote for. Call me crazy, but just not sure how Don-the-con and Mitch-the-con are going to blame Obama for their failure, but I’m sure they will try.
Encouraging words, but I still have no trust in her being a firm no.
It is also troubling that she is the only GOPer who is making sounds about being a “no” becuase the impact of the bill is too negative. Most of the other posturing GOP qeueens are because it isn’t cruel enough and leaves too much of the ACA in place.
How any bill that will kill off coverage for over 22 million Americans is not DOA now and foe er is a sad commentary on the GOP and their sick base. Who think Medicaid is “welfare” and kicking “those people” to the curb is a feature not a bug I might add.
The problem for the GOP has always been that the ACA was their “market-based” solution from the get-go.
They have no plan other than to kill it intotal or piece meal because they have no actual ideas or solutions.
Our (CO) Democratic governor is term limited but there is a strong (D) field running to replace him: a former state senator; a former state treasurer, Denver chief financial officer and deputy mayor; current US Representative Ed Perlmutter; and my US Representative Jared Polis. The primary should be interesting. Hate to lose Polis in the House but he’s frustrated with DC and thinks he can have a much bigger impact as governor.
