Endorse Doug Jones. Put country ahead of party.
FOX: Moore is perfect as a Republican nominee for POTUS. Trump/Moore ticket will be unbeatable.
If I know today’s Republicans, there are more than a few among the party’s “leaders” who are hoping Trump’ll offer Moore the next SCOTUS seat if drops out of the Senate race.
“I’ve never supported Roy Moore"
Neither have McConnell or the groper-in-chief so you’re in good company.
Flake did—said if he were in Alabama he would “run” to vote for Jones. But some of these mildly oppositional GOP critters may feel like they can only get out so far ahead of their voters. They’ve devoted their entire lives to being Republicans and endorsing a Democrat may be more than some are capable of.
There are some interesting observations in a WaPo article about Alabama Republicans standing behind Moore:
- A few said privately that they will no longer support Moore, although they are wary of announcing the decision publicly, given a party rule that bars people who want to run for office from supporting a Democratic nominee.
and the ultimate irony of an Alabama voter:
- “I never liked Roy Moore,” he continued. “But guess what? I’m voting for Roy Moore, because I hate the stupidity that has invaded the Republican Party.”
Bit of the long way around the barn but understandable, although I’m not sure which strain of stupidity he’s upset with. I do think the GOP loses nationally no matter what happens in the AL election.
Well Flake isn’t in Alabama - I suggest that he pledge to vote with the Democrats in the Senate or else abstain until Moore drops out (he won’t) or Doug Jones beats Moore in Alabama (he might). Same for Collins - put some actions down along with your words so the message gets through to the GOP leaders and donors.
Oh sure; it’s a long shot. Trump has been playing relatively nice with Collins, and the Breitbart Empire hasn’t put the full right wing fury on her, and why would she want to chance it?
On the other hand, Collins has wide bipartisan support in Maine, and if not now, when?
It appears Collins isn’t the only one. The difference is that some people are trying to do something to prevent it.
This morning’s cover of The Birmingham News:
Not only above the fold, above the nameplate!
ETA This was also today’s front page of both the The Huntsville Times and Press-Register of Mobile as well. Ouch.
Honestly I just don’t see how you go through life as a so-called moderate Republican these days. I know people do it. But it’s like trying to imagine a five-sided square, it seems impossible to me. I couldn’t walk around with that much cognitive dissonance every day.
Roy Moore seems to be a bomb the GOP lit the fuse on and it’s ticking.
Cognitive dissonance, and a fair amount of IBS, too, I’ll guess.
Good grief, hadn’t thought of that and wouldn’t begin to put it past him.
That’s a bridge too far even for most Republican senators. Thank whomever that it’s not the House that advises and consents.
If Collins doesn’t want him in the Senate, I doubt she’d vote to confirm Moore to SCOTUS.
That would be not only awful but bizarre. You could imagine him and Clarance Thomas sharing stories.
Maybe if he wasn’t in the Republican Party, he wouldn’t stand a chance. Apparently, the Party accepts all creeps.
They said the same thing about Trump. Useless posturing. The Republican Party is not helpless. It condones and enables these kind of people.
