Discussion: Collins: 'Entirely Inappropriate' For Steve Bannon To Have Seat At NSC

Your link shows the power of the entire Senate, not a member of the Senate. You do realize that if the House impeaches a President, one Senator can’t convict the accused, yes? They have to vote. In fact if one House member had power of impeachment, shouldn’t we be screaming at all House Dems for not impeaching Trump? What are they waiting for!!!..(eyeroll)

The problem with republicans is that they say these things but the things they say have no teeth. Look at Rubio with the Tillerson nomination.

More bullshit from McConnell’s puppet!

I wouldn’t expect even his most ardent critics to vote against his cabinet. That just ain’t happening with the exception of one or two nominees. But as I’ve been saying over the last few days, it’s still rather significant that less than a week and a half into a Republican administration, after eight years of a Democratic one, Republican senators are already openly disagreeing with their president. This just doesn’t happen. Sure, we’d like them to be jumping up and down promising to muck up the works until he changes course, but that’s just not even remotely realistic.

On another note about Collins, there are rumors that she may want to run for governor of Maine next year. If that’s true I’d look for her to start seriously breaking with her caucus. I suspect the Peepee presidency will soon be every Republican for him/herself, and senators will tell Mitch McConnell to loosen the leash if he wants to remain majority leader. Since there are quite a few governorships opening up next year, there might yet be a few others looking to their home state governors’ mansions as well. If so, there may be other Republicans that necessarily need to moderate.

That’s not the point. The confirmation is required to serve in that position on the NSC. Bannon being a political adviser is irrelevant to that.

Q) What is Susie Spotless going to do?

A) She’ll do what she always does! Utter a lot of bullshit and still vote the way Mitch tells her to.

I saw a post earlier today that Bannon’s is not in one of 5 exempted group/classes that do NOT require confirmation to sit on the NSC. (Ouch, sorry re double-negative) It was from a site that had some snopes issues.

I’d love to see Bannon vs. Whitehouse!

I’m determined to become the most boring, repetitive commenter on TPM. Dems have to frame this thing as a national security emergency. It’s about love of country, not hatred of Trump. Once they have made this argument, they are off the hook on all the congresional appointments, nominations, etc.–because the national security emergency must be dealt with first. Susan Collins–a famously skillful soundbite moderate but loyal GOP hack when it comes to voting–must be asked, along with other moderate Rs, to join a national security task force to investigate Bannon, Russia, ICE, muslim-ban etc–and if they refuse (which they will) then Ds set up their own nonpartisan, patriotic national security task force, and say that all other business must be put on the back burner until the emergency is no more.

EDIT:

This is how it would work:

WASHINGTON — Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee sought to stall the confirmations of Steven Mnuchin and Tom Price, President Trump’s picks for Treasury secretary and secretary of health and human services, by refusing to attend scheduled votes on Tuesday.

When asked why they had skipped the vote, Democrats said: We are too busy responding to the national security emergency posed by the Trump administration. This is not a partisan matter.

Me too. Every Breitbart headline under his tenure would come into play. The domestic violence accusations, police records, his obvious drinking problem, etc. It’s quite possibly the only way to get him out of the WH almost entirely. Although, Peepee could still text him from his Android at night.

How long before the Trumperor has her fired?

No one at the WH is an expert in anything at all - they’re each transparently incompetent. But they’re learning on the job and no one’s taking any keys away when they (constantly) fuck up.

Well, that’s depressing.

Two questions:

  1. What was he doing a Texas A&M?
  2. Is there evidence (besides obvious and ample circumstantial) that Bannon is a follower?
