Discussion: Collins Announces Final Yes On Kavanaugh, All But Ensuring His Confirmation

Flake and Collins just broke the SCOTUS. In what parallel universe are we supposed to accept the decisions of a corrupt misogynist?

Well folks that’s why the party in power gets to make the rules

I guess that he lied multiple times to the committee is not a deal breaker though.

Golly. So shocking.

Why, I would never have expected this result.

Decades of her reputation as a champion of women – flushed down the crapper.

It’s coat hangers all the way down.

“For what shall it profit a senator, if she shall gain a Supreme Court majority, but lose her soul?”

Her crowning achievement in the US Senate. She will forever be remembered for this. Contrast with Margaret Chase Smith,

“I speak as a Republican I speak as a woman. I speak as a United States Senator. I speak as an American. I don’t want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the four horsemen of calumny— fear, ignorance, bigotry and smear.”
― Margaret Chase Smith, of Maine, speaking out against Joseph McCarthy :

“I do not believe that these charges can fairly prevent Judge Kavanaugh from serving on the court,” Collins said.

OK, but what about his behavior when confronted with and defending himself from these charges? Doesn’t that matter?

Susan was the kind of girl that “Bart” and his buddies loved to see at parties.

Absolutely. One stolen seat, one perjuring assaulter seat, we get to add two at least.

But we must must must take the gavel in the Senate in January. All judicial nominations, high and low, are blocked until 2010.

I don’t know. Some GOP sugar daddy will sure come and give her $2M for every $1M that is collected to oppose her.

The message to learn from this is to, if at all possible, never be in a position where your fate is in the hands of people like Susan Collins.
Vote, people, vote.

No, I’m going to credit her with not doing what was politically safe. She just ensured that she’s going to face an extremely well-funded challenger in 2020, if she chooses to run for re-election.

In her case, the politically safe move was to vote, “No” – swapping votes with Manchin or Heitkamp to get to 50. Heitkamp told her to fuck off yesterday, and I suspect Manchin made it clear that while he would vote with her to confirm, he wouldn’t be the 50th vote to confirm. So it will be 50-49 tomorrow.

Fuck you very much, Senator.

So, she probably ensures their Republican nominee and Republicans seem energized.

I hope this energizes everyone else to vote this November.

You must not have been paying any damn attention the last few weeks because the Democratic Party I saw these last few weeks and beyond fought tooth and damn nail to kill this nomination. They never gave up even until the last hour. They did the damn thing, but it wasn’t enough. If you want to blame anyone, blame the people who sat home because they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for her.

The Crowdpac site raising $$ for her replacement is overloaded and down. It might be $3 million by the end of the weekend.

Probably why she had to talk with McConnel. Had to ensure she’d have a job somewhere after 2020.

Yes, this could’ve been avoided, had more people voted or refused to vote for unserious candidates. Some of my college people didn’t vote after Clinton became the nominee–they wanted Sanders or nothing. A costly lesson for them with serious consequences for all of us.

Well she must be defeated in 2020. Already 2.1M in the bank for her opponent.

Politically this is really bad for her, Corry Gardner, Jodi Earnst, and Thom Tillas, make them all pay in 2020.

And make Dean Heller and other republicans pay this year.

Rage needs to fuel action.

I know, right? She pretended to hold out in order to get some concessions from the powers that be, I am sure, but Mitch’s promises to her aren’t worth the air he used to make them. She will never learn that but maybe her constituents will. Meanwhile she thinks she is being “deliberative” and “serious” by stretching out the drama.

I’m devastated by these final nails in the coffin, friends. Gut-wrenchingly devastated.
