Discussion: College GOP 'Culturally Relevant' Ad Compares Candidates To Dresses

Discussion for article #228312

I have to admit…the point at which that video is stopped is pretty much a perfect analogy for explaining the GOP/Teatrolls and their ad/outreach attempts towards women and minorities: smugly grinning white person being given the “are you fucking kidding me?” look by a black person.

Jesus, conservatives really, really suck at PR.

It’s “the Half-Hour News Hour” all over again.

Conservatives really think they’re good at Media.

Jeezus masturbating Christ.

Quit while you’re ahead, Teabaggers. The only thing that’s going to get you traction with Millennials is Senator Ayn Pubicwig, and not for very long. Once someone sees through the trick, stage magic’s no fun.

I saddens me that I can only like this comment once.

I presume this is aimed at young women since young men would be heading for the hills after the first 2 seconds. Young women who are not graduates of Liberty University would be rolling their eyes that some man thought this scenario would appeal to them. How insulting.

Also, most young women of post-grad age have gotten over thinking of their mothers as idiots, and that mom is the epitome of idiocy. How demeaning.

And I gather Mom’s been relegated to an ice floe somewhere…

It’s our goal to start the conversation by presenting ourselves in a culturally relevant way.

Ah, yes weddings are for the young. Good thing they’re keeping up on what the young’uns ar gettin’ up to.

“[P]resenting ourselves in a culturally relevant way.”

College Republicans? You mean those obtuse freaks who wore neckties to class, subscribed to National Review, and couldn’t even bribe their own cousins to attend parties with them?

They’re about as culturally relevant as they are demographically relevant.

This could have been worse. Way worse. Like cupcake-sale-with-different-prices-for-different-races worse.

Also: the fact that College Republicans used “Crist” and “dress” in the same thought, and DID NOT come with a homophobic blast, has to be recognized. Credit where due.

Um, no. Why is it Republicans are so terrible at fulfilling their goals? Is it because they assume if they just say “We have a goal” loud enough and often enough, that people will give them credit for just having a goal without actual follow through? Is it just the soft bigotry of low expectations? Like, aw, they are totally failing to present themselves in a culturally relevant way, but we should all give them credit because at least they said it’s a goal?

All the while, for many in the middle and lower income brackets marriage is being postponed…do we dare to say “irrelevant” to those it is trying to reach.

I notice the director Lamey McLamerson was basing this video on a wedding-dress show but still couldn’t resist, when talking about the terrible evil very bad Democratic guy, to slide in a little of the ominous minor-key Bruckheimer demon-sheep music common to all such attack ads. Totally doesn’t fit the framing device but the tireder the trope, the less people like Lamerson (probably not the director’s real name) can bear to let go of it.

Uh yeah! Chicks can only understand stuff if you put it in terms of wedding dresses…duh! Yay outreach!

Just like the candidates, both those dresses are ugly.

If college Republicans want to be “culturally relevant,” they’ll disband as a group and offer a heartfelt apology for being such a collection of lame-ass dickwads.

Wonder why they didn’t use an ad contemplating birth control? One woman suggested using modern prescription medication, the other an aspirin between the knees.
