Discussion: College Board Addresses AP History Critics With New Instructions

Discussion for article #228374

These kinds of critics you can’t placate; you have to rebut them point by point and even then the more hard core of them will never accept the facts.

Absolutely correct. They know what they know and that is all they want to know.

Translation: Education system pussies kowtow to GOP/Teatroll ideologues’ demands that children be indoctrinated into conservative beliefs. US History is now a creative writing class, rather than a survey of factual, recorded historical record followed by demands that children think critically about said facts. History is now whatever you want it to be, with special emphasis on allowing people who find the truth to be inconvenient to simply come up with an alternative that affirms their ideology.

Seems like a reasonable response the “controversy.” I hope the College Board understands that the perpetrators of the “controversy” don’t give a damn about their response, no matter what it is. They just want the noise, the confusion, the undermining of trusted institutions. They are radicals, and vandals.

So the College Board basically changes its policies to placate idiots. The whole system stinks. Colleges should stop relying on moribund institutions and start using their brains in the admission process.

I think we’re giving “conservatives” too much credit when we treat them like they are being sincere. This is just kids being used as political footballs by RWNJ con artists.

This summary reads more like an explicit clarification of things that anyone already familiar with teaching AP History expected.

Do you think these conservative morons are interested in facts. They want a course based on what they say not what happened. It is just more false outrage for the con men to use in raising more funds and you fell for it.

Just another battle in the Education War of Northern Aggression.

I’m not surprised that right wing imbeciles (of which there are a multitude) want history class to simply be propaganda aimed at indoctrinating people into some “one true way” of thinking.

Come on, don’t give in to these fuckers!!

These rw imbeciles are the same ones who complain about those “liberal professors” poisoning, like Socrates, the minds of our youth.

They’ve been singing this song now for decades.

I graduated UC decades ago. Not once in 4 years did any professor try to influence my politics.

In this and many other such cases it’s the Tea Partiers who snuck in under the radar to get these school board positions in off-year elections or by not being frank with the voters about just who they were and what they wanted to do. So yes, every election counts, every position counts.

I don’t know how a second document is supposed to placate anyone who obviously never read the first one.
