I hear people say stuff like “I guess I’m gonna be going to the women’s bathroom from now on!”
They think that’s clever but because they’re not as smart as they think they are, they’re actually telling on themselves. THEY are the creepy people we should be worried about.
Yea really the ones shouting the loudest against something are the ones deepest into it.
As usual, Stephen drives straight to the point, and calls out the bullshit for what it is. He’s a national treasure!
Seems like common sense here folks…How many people feel comfortable with a 250 pound man in the same bathroom/locker room as their 16 and 18 year old daughters? How about 70 year old mother? What ever happened to the good old days…
Yes, I imagine all of those 250 pound transgender men stalking the bathrooms frequented by young girls or elderly women. It’s kept me awake at night for years wondering why no one has enacted these laws to keep our women folk safer. Wait…no, no I haven’t. In fact, as a woman growing from young to old in the SF bay area, I have never given it a thought before all of this “common sense” legislation for something that was never a problem.
Near as I can tell, most Republicans think the Good Old Days ended when we passed the the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.
Yes, it does seem like common sense – and Colbert got it just right.
So glad to see all the anti-gun control conservatives come out as pro-bladder control, because there’s nothing intrusive about that at all. Republicans: We want to get the government out of everyone’s private business - except for, y’know, their private business.
Makes more sense to check their voting record than their junk. Do not allow your pre-teen son in the can with a Repubican.
Got that right.
Government is the the one suggesting it be legal for men to be in girls bathroom when it never was before. It will assuredly cause problems, just wait and see!
These laws are so dumb and hateful … Stephen’s so great at making the triviality of them so darned obvious.
In the late 90s, I worked at a company where one of the upper management folks was born a man, was in transition to a woman. It was not a secret and it was okay. Many times I found myself in the restroom with her and there simply no issue. Not one person ever expressed concern. It was not a thing.
This was a decade and a half ago. C’mon GOTP folks … time to grow up and stop making problems where there aren’t any.
No. Simply wrong. It’s not men, it is transgender individuals. It’s been going on forever and there is no proof of any issues.
These people act as if they had never seen or known a transgender woman or man. Of course, you wouldn’t expect someone who was transgender to have them as friends or be willing to come out to them if not absolutely necessary.
I’ve known a few transgendered people and met many others in my time. Some “pass” better than others, based upon general society’s definition(s) of what a female or a male “looks like.” But none of them have looked anything close to their birth sex. No one who is transgendered–and is going through the process, gone through the process, or lives their life as their identified sex–does this for other people, to make other people to feel uncomfortable (or comfortable … or anything) because it isn’t about other people. Do you really want to be using the urinal at WalMart and have what appears to be a lady walk in and do her business? If you’re okay with that, then why not just suggest unisex bathrooms – which I personally believe is the way to go. Unisex bathrooms with all the fixings – diaper changing stations, stalls, urinals, condoms, tampons, etc.
Americans are, by and large, too frickin’ hung up on sex and other people’s peeholes and what those other people might be doing with their peeholes. Seriously, this isn’t about you personally or me personally (and I don’t say that to be confrontational) – it’s about people being allowed to use a public bathroom. Sexual acts–be they heterosexual, homosexual, molestation, rape, etc.–is already outlawed in public bathrooms.
Like * 1000!
Let’s face it it is a ridiculous law. There have been no reported problems to date.
I suppose the next step will be to require all entering a public bathroom to produce a birth certificate. Could it be the GOP’s effort to create jobs? Obviously, there will be a need for “bathroom checkers” monitoring and checking all birth certificates for “gender assigned at birth”?
We’ll go back to the old system where there was always a washroom attendant. Only in this case the size of the tip influences whether they’ll report you to the police.
Right? The laws already exist, enforce those already in existence. Wait, isn’t that the conservative gun lobby argument too?
I just don’t understand how their heads aren’t exploding all over the place from trying to keep this all straight.
