Discussion for article #229918
Iām not a scientist either, but this guy keeps me sane. Used to be Maher, now itās Colbert. For a few more months. Then he turns into Johnny Carson.
I predict weāre going to see some epic takedowns from Colbert as the show winds down. Thatās not a hard thing to predict, based on all the epic takedowns weāve already seen, of course, but anyway thatās what I think.
Iām really looking forward to see how Colbert runs Late Night. If heās going to āturn into Johnny Carsonā, that will be fine with me. I remember when Johnny actually had people come on the Tonight Show to discuss actual issues.
i think iād dispute the āshamedā part of the piece. inhofe has no sense of shame.
James Inhofe as Chairman of E&PW is possibly the worst part of Republicans taking the majority.
I donāt find it funny. Itās just sad. It is sad what has happened to this country. Sad that the country which sent men to moon has reached rock bottom.
Heāll remain subversive. At his core heās a progressive. Colbert will not become silent.
You should see āInterstellarā for a good look at what awaits us if the Republican anti-science, anti-education agenda is allowed to go unchecked.
(Also, itās emotionally gripping and visually stunning enough to distract you from your sadness for three-hours, so thereās that.)
Inhofe: somewhere between ninety-nine-point-nine and one hundred percent moron
Exactly. We can try to shame the media for enabling science denialism. We can try to shame those that donāt vote for acquiescing to science denialism. But there is no shaming the modern Republican party.
Got it Mr Colbert, but being honest when we had our chance to do something about this,as we see folks sat on their āballotsā and all we can do now is watch what has been sown.
I am a scientist. I did bench top science. Meaning I did experiments myself and I trust the data that I published. That we have people in positions of national responsibility who have zero understanding of science and a willful denial of factual reality is deeply disturbing to me. The vast majority of scientists are truthful people. Their jobs depend on being honest, accurate and truthful. This is demonstrably not the case in politics. Lying is part and parcel of being a member of Congress. Had I ever spoken like they do Iād have lost my job in a heart beat.
The truth is human activity (burning fossil fuels, cattle in feedlots etc etc) has resulted in enormous amounts of greenhouse gasses being added to the atmosphere and this results in changes in our environment. Itās simple really. A + B= C. But that is higher order thinking that is beyond the ability of people like Sen. Inhofe. And this (his thinking) affects all of us, unfortunately. Iām glad that I am a senior citizen and wonāt likely be around to see the damage that results. But my grandson will be.
Hear,hear.
Somewhere along the line many politicians figured out that there are a lot of stupid voters out there, and all they needed to do to enjoy a profitable life in politics, was to win their votes.
One of the really shocking things about greedātodayās, the Gilded Ageās, whateverāis how deeply callous about human suffering people are willing to be rather than settle for a small slice less than the maximum amount of money they can make when they already literally have billions. Inhofe is stupid, but the people funding him arenāt. They know the science and they know the risk. They have children, and grandchildren. But they continue to pray to Satan that nothing diminishes their profits. Literally nothing else matters.
Imhofe R-Conoco-Phillips is jsut one of so many reasons Iām so damn happy to have left Pokiehoma.
Lotās of really great people live there but they have no say in the governance of the place. But they have much stronger stomachs than mineā¦
We can take some perverse satisfaction knowing that Inhofeās grand kids are going to bake in the climate hell heās going to pass on to them.
Like putting Pope Urban VIII in charge of NASA.
not only are they all not scientist, but none of them play scientist on TV either, what are the chances of thatā¦guess weāll never know because none of them are statisticians eitherā¦damn it all
