Discussion for article #239865
Time mag has a history of these rather strange, distorted cover photos. I think they once even managed to make George W. Bush look not dumb.
Yeah, no. I don’t like this photo at all. I’ve always found Colbert to be quite attractive, sexy even, and attractive is not how I’d describe him in this pic. Certainly not sexy.
It seems Stephen will get to play a Trump card…
Yeah, this pic does him no credit. You’re right, he’s a sexy, attractive guy, plus funny and intelligent and completely irreverent and I’d gladly bear his children…oops. TMI?
Damn, looks like Clooney.
LOL You’ll have to fight me for him first. Funny and intelligent almost always equals sexy and attractive in my book.
This cover makes him look crazed, maniacal, almost evil. Is this meant to be payback or something? Very unflattering. This strikes me to be nothing like he is, or is perceived by the public…who I think gets him a lot better than this photographer tried. If you want black and white, artsy-fartsy…I can think of better ways to capture his essence. Awful photograph and if you hadn’t told me who it was, I never would have guessed either. That’s how bad it is.
Added: They actually had to put the word “Colbert” above the word TIME and the photo, which proves my point.
I think it’s a great photograph. He resembles Peter Sellers in it, it seems to me.
Different subject too, I think.
I like it too. I think it’s quite an attractive picture… or at least a picture of a quite attractive man. He reminds me a bit of Gene Kelly too, with the laugh crinkles around the eyes and the shape of a mouth that looks about to break into a smile. It’s nice to see him without his props.
I assume it would be hard to do a close-up like that if someone were wearing glasses because of the inevitable reflection. But what do I know.
I like it. It’s recognizably him, but undeniably different. Photog didn’t want to do “a Stephen Colbert photo”, he wanted to do, “a different point of view on Stephen Colbert”. Not sure how well that ties in to the article, but it is what it is.
Maybe Stephen’s telegraphing the seriousness with which he will approach his subject matter within his kingdom of laughter?
The word haggard comes to mind.
Not sure why people are objecting to the photo. It makes him look like a 51 year old man who’s not wearing any television makeup, nothing worse than that.
I think it’s a great photo. It’s got Stephen Colbert in it.
Majestic
Never really thought of Colbert as Dustin Hoffman’s doppelganger before.
