Thank you, Stephen!! What a shame our comedians are better at informing the general public about our politics than most of our “news” media.
Anderson, Katrina Pierson isn’t a “surrogate,” she’s his SPOKESPERSON. It’s not even the same thing. Stop.giving.these.people.a.pass.
Anderson has gone from prematurely grey to prematurely old.
He looks terrible, IMO.
See the DIFFERENCE is surrogates come on and we know they are gonna bloviate for their candidates. Take it or leave it. CNN HIRED this buffoon and gave him legitimacy…or at least tried to. It made you all look like fools.
New rule: IOKIYACNN
“So ya’ll are paying him, and Trump is paying him, but he’s on your show doing analysis for a man he still gets cash from?” Colbert pressed on.
"Ya’ll’? I much prefer y’all.
Oh, and yeah, CNN should be ashamed of themselves for having that racist reporter-assaulter on their payroll at the same time he’s getting paid by the Trump campaign. What management genius OKd that arrangement? Maybe the guy who’s been tasked with making them look less like an ethical news organization?
Pretty sad when the worst grilling about an issue comes from late night talk shows,
Do you figure Colbert is gunning for a third Peabody for the mantle?
Lewandowski doing paid analysis for CNN is what is called an ethical lapse. Maybe Bush’s ethics expert should take on that steaming pile of shit.
But…but… Anderson said We want to be just like Fox…All Republican all Trump all the time. You know… Fair and Balanced
Crooked Trump has now bought Crooked CNN.
Wow.
My wife and I were watching Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and I commented that “This is the Millennial’s “60 Minutes” now.” and she agreed.
With the death of Broadcast Journalism (taken out back by greedy shareholders and killed in the woodshed in the 1990’s) and it’s replacement by “InfoTainment” we are all left with just the COMEDY SHOWS to tell us the truth about what is going on in the world.
Sad isn’t it?
No wonder that there are so many ignorant people following Trump like lemmings over the Cliff of Fascism when there is NOWHERE for them to turn to for real “Journalism” that they can understand (since sarcasm and parody is totally lost on “Conservatives”.)
I agree with your statement. The problem is that this is not the first time CNN has put someone like this or kept them on payroll once they became rabid advocates. Pat Buchanan was allowed to have a permanent sinecure on CNN to serve as his platform for his perennial nativist rabid right run for the GOP nomination. Lou Dobbs was allowed to remain on CNN with his regular gig and bully pulpit when he went more batshit crazy on immigration than Trump. During the years that GWB was garnering just enough of the Latino vote to win two terms, CNN had as permanent talking heads Alex Castellanos and Leslie Sanchez on their nightly political analysis and debate programs. I know it officially died much later, but once Ted Turner sold his control, CNN stopped having any chance of being the US equivalent of BBC.
Real news is expensive. Commentary, even intelligent, well-researched commentary, is cheap.
I’d hardly call this an “awkward grilling”, though that headline got me to read the article
It’s not really a big deal of course; Lewandowski’s severance is presumably paid regardless, and everyone knows that as a former Trumpy he’s supportive of Trump’s views. I don’t know that I’d have him on CNN as anything more than a frequent guest, but that’s a separate issue.
Cooper handled the question with a smile and a shrug. Not exactly awkward.
You can be sure of it. It’s been hard as hell on him getting his act together in this format and James Corbin (show following his) has just blown by him with 3 Emmy nominations and the Carpool Karaoke and Drop the Mic spinoffs. I think Colbert’s finally getting his groove on though. Still needs a bit more work, but at least the hardcore satire is back.
Unfortunately Colbert forgot the more important question, which is the non-disparagement agreement that anyone that comes within 10 feet of HO has to sign. Otherwise, I agree Anderson did some dancing, especially when confronted about his panels of alternating crazy and sane people. Obviously Anderson can’t call them crazy (because professionalism), but he did a heck of a job of giving no indication whatsoever that he agreed or disagreed with any of his guests, which is exactly how real journalists are supposed to behave.
“The CNN host responded he has all kinds of guests on his show, including surrogates who are paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.”
The key word here Anderson is you are talking about your guests, while ledowski is a paid cnn employee!!
BIG difference!
Exactly. Lewandowski is Trump’s surrogate masquerading as some sort of impartial analyst. Doesn’t pass the smell test.
not only was it NOT awkward but if you sneezed you would have missed it.
