For some reason trump’s intimidation, obstruction and other crimes don’t seem to get him in the hot water they should. Anyone else who did only (and there’s so much more not on video) what we have seen on video would have been in prison long ago.
Here is the part that gets me. Were anyone besides Donald Trump to do this, he would be universally condemned and subject to legal action and censure. But because we all know that Trump is crazy, venal, and lies constantly, not to mention attacks other people all day long, he is immune to legal action. I heard a very smart and respected lawyer basically say this last night on the podcast All The President’s Lawyers.
So my understanding is that it is the president’s willingness to do and say anything and lie constantly that protects him from repercussions when those actions are obstructing justice and perverting congressional intent on a daily basis.
Forgive me for having such a hard time wrapping my head around this one. This is why I believe Trump will never see one second of jail time or any actual punishment for all of the crime that he has committed over the decades.
Spankee is undoubtedly in pretty deep doo doo. Mueller is going to put it all together in one great big package with a huge red ribbon on it. No sneak previews.
But soon-to-be AG Bill Barr reassured Trump when he said there is no reason to review the DoJ policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted, and I’m confident that Lindsey Graham and his co-conspirators in the Senate would say this is “just a process crime,” so all is good.
Perhaps Donald Trump will find inspiration in the story of Vincent Gigante -
For the better part of 30 years, Gigante feigned insanity in an effort to throw law enforcement off his trail. Dubbed “The Oddfather” and “The Enigma in the Bathrobe” by the press, Gigante often wandered the streets of Greenwich Village in his bathrobe and slippers, mumbling incoherently to himself. He was indicted on federal racketeering charges in 1990, but was determined to be mentally unfit to stand trial. In 1997 he was tried and convicted of racketeering and was given a 12-year sentence. Facing new charges in 2003, he pleaded guilty and admitted that his supposed insanity was an elaborate effort to avoid prosecution.[2] He died while incarcerated in 2005 at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners.
C’mon Mike… spill all the beans! Save America!
The more you talk the more Mueller and the Dem controlled House listen.
You are already going to be in history books… be in them as a hero!
Cohen is concerned that the remarks will inspire an “unstable person to target him or his family,” in ABC’s words.
We’ll, that is certainly the intent. This is a tried and true play from the anti-abortion movement where lone wolves are regularly called upon to commit murder.
Don’t be silly. Trump himself made the implicit threat over the airwaves publicly. Amounting to shut up or I’ll have your father investigated. Cohen’s father-in- law is such that Trump probably deliberately chose not to threaten him.
Not so long ago, Mikie was the one delivering the threats. Maybe some of those threats WERE followed up with action. Also, Cohen is understandably concerned that his mob family would be drawn into the fray and prosecuted.
