Discussion: Cohen Caught In Complex Thicket Of State, Federal Investigations

And state charges are up next for Manafort, too, if Trump pardons him.

Somehow, I think if the local barkeep were making $40,000 a month on his loan application and $40,000 a year on his tax return, the bank would be quietly wise to that old trick. In principle, adding a couple of zeroes shouldn’t change the calculus, which makes me think this complex thicket ought to begin snagging up the bank officials who were in on it.

“Under Justice Department guidelines, they could have been seen as influencing the midterm elections had they waited any longer.” What’s good for the 2016 goose is good for the 2018 gander; in other words, turnabout is fair play.

IANAL, but at what point does the Trump Organisation qualify for RICO status, either federal or state or both? I think the answer is probably that they passed that some time ago…

OT- I am getting tired of the Comments section not working in a lot of these new articles under the new, very cluttered front page format with embedded Trump Tweets and Giuliani items on the right margin. I know, I know I am a cranky elder male person…

I use my phone so I thought it might be an Android problem. Some comfort to know that other people are having problems. The first day Josh said that the system for tablets was broken, so I do not know why they did the switch. Who uses the PC on a regular bases?

Comment section has always been a little flaky. But also, No surprise on a system transition there would be further hiccups, (I blame unknown unknowns)

As for the new setup… I think it is fine, lays out stories in a way you can see acticles… but does underscore that TPM is very reactive to Trump’s “tweets if distraction”

Hard time remembering the last, non-trump positive story about a Democrat.

Almost like Democrats don’t exist.

I do. Can’t get to comments on several articles this a. m. Assume it’s related to roll out of new format.

Almost like 2016 election strategy… Anti Trump, more than Pro Democratic policies. More about what we’ll lose than what we’ll gain.

I know they are aware of the problem, I didn’t know if it was across all platforms.

A bit like a tabloid, a juicy bit here, juicy bit there, a scandal, he said, she said. Hard to keep up with the details. I guess it is the world we live in though with internet. It is becoming information overload. People turning it off and going with their gut or soul, exposing how they really think while denying the image they project.

Only thick people get caught in thickets…

For all of you complaining about no news on Democrats well this legal stuff is important, it’s complicated, and for me no news on Democrats is good news. And when I say good news it’s they’re not out there saying stupid stuff. Their running their campaigns like they should.

As for reporting on each and every Trump tweet it’s ridiculous. Trump tweets are just poop flinging.

Cohen and Lanny Davis made a plea deal, I doubt Cohen has anything further hanging over his head as far as additional charges go. Plea deals don’t work that way. This headline of him being caught in a complex thicket of state and federal investigations is drama after the fact. He was. He copped a plea and has most likely given them all he is going to give them in order to get the 3-5 prison sentence. But TPM feels we can never get enough Trump, Cohen, and Manafort stories to comment on. I quit commenting on Trump stories over a year ago for the most part. Everything that can be said about Trump has been said in every way possible years ago.

A lot has been said certainly, but Cohen is the first to say them under oath in public. That does matter.

I’m still snickering about ‘Pecker Rolling on Trump’.
