Another obscenely rich celebrity with no experience in government or public service. Just exactly what we need.
A long time ago, in another lifetime, I had dinner with then Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant. It was a depressing affair if you’re anywhere to the left of Genghis Khan, and I found myself driving at dangerous speeds to get the hell outta there as fast as internal combustion technology would allow me to. As someone who was there put it afterwards: Mississippi is what you get when you run a state like a shitty fraternity.
It would be nothing short of pure awesomeness to see the age and thought encrusted old guard get kicked to the curb in my lifetime.
Note to Mississippi GOP: Roy Moore is available. He’s just a short drive away.
I couldn’t help but notice the total absence of any mention of a viable Democratic challenger stepping up to run for either of these seats. Which isn’t surprising given that it’s not like it’s a state that’s going to have a deep Democratic bench these days.
. . .
In 2014, he struggled to win a Republican primary over McDaniel, who received financial support from libertarian-leaning groups that criticized Cochran as a big spender.
Because if there’s one thing Mississippi needs, it’s less money coming in to the state.
A quick google says that he served in the MS legislature for 6 years and worked as a lawyer for years and heads The Innocence Project to free unjustly jailed people. He’d be a fine choice. And he’s a Democrat.
Really don’t think it’s fair to dismiss someone who actually earned his money by producing things of value, even if it’s only borderline plausible legal thrillers, “obscenely rich.” It’s just me, and arbitrary but I tend to reserve that term for inherited wealth unless the “earned” net worth is in the billions range.
We’ll see.
Sassy is as well…
We saw a similar thing in 2010 when the Dems lost big. I sure hope history repeats itself in November 2018. That is why I constantly write that we do not need any divisiveness from the far left. We must stop the repubs and fighting among ourselves is not helpful. Get Dem wins and then work to make the changes you want.
Just check the first shopping mall across the border.
When I read that Cochran was retiring my first thought was:
I wonder if he knows that?
Senator Leahy, how many times do you need the football to be pulled away before you stop trusting Lucy?
I agree.
There’s nothing disqualifying about being a successful writer. Vaclav Havel comes to mind.
As does one Barrack Obama.
Or Junior HIgh…
