If this were a novel, it would be dismissed as being implausible.
Mississippi. A conservative political grandee and a Tea Party wingnut. Nursing hope capers. GOTV efforts aimed at black voters. People locked into the courthouse, with the ballots, in the wee hours of the morning. An unforceable, absurd restriction on primary voting (what morons passed this legislation?). Accusations of vote-buying. A RWNJ blogger stirring the pot, and triggering prank phone calls.
It almost makes me sorry that I live in boring CT.
Of course, we do have Linda McMahon.

One wizard blew past his legal career and then exercised his 2nd Amendment rights. They had to pry the gun from his cold dead hands. He won the narrative that day. We will have to wait and see if Johnson is a real man.

What’s sad is that despite this obvious and increasing lunacy, not a single national Republican leader will have the guts to stand up and push back against this type of rhetoric for what it is, outside of some generic comments about “disruption.”
If anything national Republican leaders will instead use incidents like this as a means to attack Obama and Democrats as being “plants” or to spout banalities about rank partisanship on both sides.
Mark my words, the first Republican to stand up and give even the most superficial denunciation of this behavior, ala a “Sister Soulja Moment,” will be the Republican candidate to defeat President Clinton in 2020.

The sad thing is is that this is the best way for Mr. Johnson to get invitations on Fox News and talk radio. I’m guessing he cares more about promoting his own media brand, than he cares about engaging in the political process or journalism through media conference calls. Mission accomplished.

Exactly. So where are the “adults” within the Republican party?
I have a feeling that most voters in Mississippi, whether black or white, Democrat or Republican, are focused on making ends meet on a day to day basis, rather than having the time of their lives watching two politicians slug it out. Generally the only people that can enjoy politics for the slug fest, are the people fortunate enough to not immediately be affected by politics.

Haven’t seen this up-thread, and maybe it’s just my own political evil-ness coming out, but…if I were a Dem operative without a lot of scruple, I might very well seek to further rat-fuck the MS GOP Sen race by calling anonymously to a radio program and allowing everyone to jump to the conclusion that I was a McDaniel staffer.
Well, having spent a few weeks in Mississippi once, I think I’ve picked up enough to the local dialect to translate for you. In standard English, what this fellow was saying was “N***ER N***ER N*ER!!! NER LOVING N***ER LOVER GOT VOTES FROM N***ERS!”
