Bracing for the worst?
As opposed to what – publishing it?
If the people who were reading the Weekly Standard need to look somewhere else for their fix and find it in Breitbart, that’s getting off your prescription opioids and turning to fentanyl. Not really a net win for informed democracy.
The magazine’s current owner, MediaDC, reportedly “butted heads” with Weekly Standard leadership
So much snark to be had there. Where to start?
It’s actually not a bad magazine. Not my cup of tea politically, but I have read interesting pieces there. Its vastly superior to the Never-Trump yet oddly Pro-Trump National Review.
Is that a picture of Chris Hayes with a beard?
To be honest, until recently i had forgotten all about The Weekly Standard. It’s been quite some time since I visited that site. Don’t know how long it’s been.
That’s a terrific illustration BTW.
There’s always the American Conservative. They were anti-Iraq War back in the day and I actually subscribed briefly. Despite Buchanan’s column they seem like The Nation compared to Breitbart.
Look, I know, I know … I know that in a contest between the Clinton-Hate Standard and even farther right propaganda outlets like Breitbart, NatRev, or Fox News, I should be rooting for the more consistently Never-Trump Standard, but …
I’m sorry, it just feels like rooting for Mussolini over Hitler, when, really, I just want to see all of them fatally injured.
Any remember “Project for a New American Century”. Karl Rove? 18 years in to the century and into the shitter.
I guess there are limits to wingnut welfare afterall. Does Fred Barnes still toil there? How will he secure his retirement now? Probably on Fox.
Standard what?
Headline: Weekly Standard Standing Weakly
I can’t say I’m surprised.
Charles Koch and FOX are Walmart to the Weekly Standard’s mom & pop operation.
Market fundamentalism and extremist libertarian disinformation is no longer a penny-ante affair.
It’s a target-rich environment – fire at will!
The NR is pretty much captured by Kochworld. It’s pro-Trump because the “Trump” administration is actually the Koch administration with an unfortunate but non-fatal aberration at the top. Pruitt, Zinke, Mnuchin, Kobach, Ross, Sessions, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Pence – these guys are creatures of Charles Koch’s autocratic mission to permanently end democracy in the US, and that effort is going extremely well, with Trump happily engulfed in his fight with American society, and uninterested in any of the boring fine print that Koch uses to cement his own power.
Wingnut welfare is mostly underwritten by Charles Koch, who demands complete orthodoxy and Distinguished Service before you qualify for the retirement plan.
The Trump admin is Koch’s absurdly successful powerplay. Attacking it is a guaranteed way to get blacklisted.
OY!
