Discussion: CNN: Russians Bragged They Could Use Flynn Relationship To Influence Trump

That’s been my thought all along: that Russia wouldn’t have directly gone to Trump. Why engage with a narcissistic, unreliable, empty-headed buffoon when the buffoon is so easily swayed and manipulated? Go after the people he surrounds himself with and you’ve accomplished the same thing.

Are the Feds leaking this to put more pressure on Flynn to turn and as a warning to Trump that they’ve got the goods on him too?

It will come down to a man who’s story changes depending on his mood and a man who has decades of service to the country, makes sure a paper trail exists whenever he senses something fishy and is a seasoned lawyer/investigator. I would put my money on the guy with the documentation, not the dementia.

I think they are working on multiple fronts, which is why they are going after Flynn and Manafort. Get either or both to turn on Trump and he is done. They may also be working to take down additional people in Trump’s inner circle that we don’t know about yet (though it sure seemed like Kushner is getting lots of their attention.)

If Trump’s disinhibition during the campaign was anything like it has been during his presidency, there’s no way that he didn’t say or do stuff that wasn’t directly collusive with Russian hacking/propaganda efforts. It’s just a question of gaining access to the campaign communications records, if these exist. He simply would not have had the discipline or smarts to distance himself from his Russian friends. In fact it’s almost as if one the most exculpatory features of Trump’s criminality–on collusion, on corruption with Russia, Turkey, obstruction of justice etc–is its sheer transparency. We’ve already seen him actually urging people to hack his opponent, and we’ve seen him admitting in more or less black and white terms that he fired Comey because of Russia. And yet this isn’t enough, for some reason. So the question is: when will actual clearcut evidence of criminality ever stick this guy?

Was just listening to NPR in the car and they report that PESOS didn’t “get much sleep” during the trip to Saudi Arabia. Yeah, I bet he didn’t!

What could go wrong?

Aside from Lust Object and Thing 1 and Thing 2, no one is going to be loyal to Trump if things get hot—and things are getting hot.

Rats are going to be jealous of the speed with which the weasels abandon the Trumptanic, which is taking on water rapidly.

I’m wondering how much the Russians have on Trump from his pre-political days. That, combined with a key placement or two, would do the trick in the executive branch.

OT a bit: we’re all going to be jonesing for tweets over the next 10 days. What will Rachel et al talk about? I’m already bored with the news … arrgghhh. Yet another thing we can thank him for.

The article infers maybe 5 percent max will walk out when Pence speaks. Not an overwhelming figure.

Sorry, gotta disagree - it’s like having a colicky newborn for 4 months who is suddenly stops crying 24/7. The peace and quiet is a welcome respite even it only lasts a few days.

And the leak about a person of interest in the White House, read Kushner, dramatically raises the stakes and is a direct shot at Trump from career FBI agents.

They ain’t playing anymore (not that they ever were) and, imo, nothing he tries to do will stop them.

The Russians didn’t need Flynn to influence Trump, Fox News likely did that job for them.
