She gets reassigned for accurately depicting them?
I have a feeling she isn’t the only person being sent to Moscow for an errant tweet…
Politically correct. indeed. Criticism of Israel must never be uttered in the American media. Criticism of the U.S. is okay, but a career can be destroyed by telling the truth about the wrong masters.
Isn’t that the truth. How dare she?
Now you know how it works with Israel.
I have a feeling she isn’t the only person being sent to Moscow…
Is that the journalistic equivalent of being sent to Siberia?
She’s absolutely correct, but even in the Twitterverse, reporters have to be more careful with their opinions.
They were correct to do this. She was correct in having that feeling, but as a journalist and a representative of an objective news organization, her choice of words showed a lack of discipline and inhibit her ability to do her job moving forward.
I agree with her sentiment, and would have expressed it publicly, but then I don’t work for CNN
I agree with Diana Magnay. Anyone who cheers something like that has never lived thru something like that. Let bombs be dropped on them, and then see how loudly they cheer. That is after their eardrums rupture and their bowels let go. Then put them on camera and let them cheer.
This is a tragedy for both Israel and the Palestinian people. It’s a failure of diplomacy of terrible magnitude. Anyone in Israel cheering ought to know what Israel will do. Now, people are dying on both sides. War is madness, this is preventable madness, and anyone who cheers it has had too much television.
This makes CNN scum too. But we knew that.
Once again, a problem caused by people just having to Twitter each and every thought they have.
She has every right to have that personal opinion.
But as a reporter who is supposed to be as objective as possible, it was both incredibly irresponsible and thoroughly unprofessional for her to post that tweet.
CNN was right to remove her from her assignment, because she showed that she could not be objective.
If there were Israelis cheering such a tragedy, they should be deeply ashamed.
It is good to remember that Israel currently has a far-right government, and those who most vocally support it are not all that different from the far-right in this country who are terrorizing busloads of children or calling for them to be shot if they cross the border.
This what propriety gets you. She should have just said “assholes.”
I think her Twitter comment reflects a refreshingly human reaction to a personally threatening situation she encountered. She made it clear that it was in reaction to this situation, not as a comment on Israeli policy. I think CNN was wrong to transfer her.
Yes, I’m sure no one cheered when word got out we killed OBL.
Or when we dropped a bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and ended WWII.
War is madness, but to say people who cheer when their country fights back against an enemy who has sworn to kill every last one of them are somehow horrible people is not correct. These are people as tired of war as the rest of us and hoping the bombings will bring and end to the rocket attacks they live with on a daily basis.
It is time for the media to call bullcrap on Israel. Lauging at bombing innocent people is no laughing matter. I believe that Israel has treated the people of Gaza inhumanely by denying them access to food and medicine. Why should innocent people of Gaza get punished for Hamas? Hamas is never going to win. They would be better off getting rid of their missiles and going to the UN to broker peace and permission to sutup their own country. That wouldl be the solution. Why Hamas thinks that Israel is going away is just delusional.
Indeed, she shouldn’t be editorializing on social media about events that she’s covering; however, this prohibition also applies to all journalists in all parts of the world. Which is why I don’t understand why Fox News still has employees, or why Bob Shieffer still has a job, or why when CNN’s own Wolf Blitzer calls Obamacare a “train wreck” he isn’t reassigned to Kazakhstan. My guess is that reporters do have opinions and that they do, in fact, express them rather freely. In this case, it’s not the opinion that is the issue; it’s the subject of that opinion.
And yet the theft of land and illegal settlement will continue, no matter what the Palestinians do.
So she calls it as she sees it and gets reassigned? This is why Israel continues to murder innocent Palestinians with impunity because Netanyahu knows he can do whatever he wants to, steal their land, blockade their existence and the global community will not say a word against him and his right wing Likud Party.
