Discussion: CNN: Prosecutors Close To Charging Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig

Let the retribution begin! Revenge I say! Now that the Meuller probe is over and it’s declared that I’m innocent, it’s time to file charges against anyone who has ever opposed me! (finish with evil laugh.)

Was he Obama’s White House Counsel when the alleged crime happened? Otherwise this headline is misleading and will feed into a Trump/Republican theme of Obama admin needs to be investigated too.

I’m of two minds here. Craig worked for Obama, so that’s enough for Trump and his cronies to go after him. On the other hand, he’s part of the lobbying industry, and it sounds like he may well have stepped over the line.

No, his stint as White House Counsel for Obama lasted for 1 year according to Wikipedia, from Jan 20, 2009 - Jan 3, 2010 and that ended 2 years before this incident.

From the linked CNN article:

Craig initially came into the crosshairs of federal prosecutors in mid-2017, during the investigation by Mueller. Craig and his then-firm, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, had performed work beginning in 2012 for Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice.

It seems like it might have happened after Obama finished. Wasn’t really clear just than the initial mention of him working for Obama.

Googling a bit found this that looks like he worked for Obama before all this, and it may be nothing other than not registering to work for foreign folks and lying about it. Something Mueller was doing before looking into Donald also.

My suspicion is there are a lot of lobbyists on both sides in DC who cross that line.

What Mueller report? We haven’t seen any such report.

Different report I believe. One he worked on before the one on Donald.

Silly CNN. The more you try to suck up to The Rump, the more he’ll treat you like just another warm place to put it. He doesn’t respect you and never will.

Seriously, Josh and crew. WTF!? Words have meaning and this headline does more than merely imply, it states as fact that Obama’s White House Counsel, Greg Craig, is to be charged by prosecutors. “High profile D.C. lawyer” would be a wholly accurate and more fair headline. It is, arguably, newsworthy to mention that he worked in the Obama white house years before the alleged acts, but without that context this is poor form (and not the first time) and highly misleading.

misleading article at best.
which way we going tpm??

Big mistake by Craig getting involved with Manafort and the pro-Russian Ukranian party. But I guess some lawyers see themselves as hired guns and will work for just about anyone.

As Jonathan Swift said of lawyers, in Gulliver’s Travels: “there was a society of men among us, bred up from their youth in the art of proving, by words multiplied for the purpose, that white is black, and black is white, according as they are paid.”

Skadden. Nuff said.

There, the prosecutors are looking at bringing the false statement charges, as the extension on the FARA statute of limitations has expired, according to the report.

Anyone placing bets on whether the FUX talking heads will be screaming about this being a “process crime”?

Thanks for making that connection. I hadn’t followed the Skadden story before…
