You beat me to it. THIS, Exactly. The “echo” of Fox is actually the “voice” with the real echo in the White House.
I understand the view on that. But that means that it never gets brought out into the light. They will have a war, it will be a nasty battle of one upping one another. As far as loyal viewers, they are a done deal. They can either ask themselves questions or stay suckling at the teat of Fox. It no longer matters. We cannot wait for them to catch up.
My opinion is there is an Axis of evil at play here and this is one more arm of the octopus.
Here, Ted Koppel rightly explains Hannity’s and Fox’s problem to Hannity: https://youtu.be/-M5FHcCO9Zc

Cognitive dissonance…?

Doublethink?
More of this please. A lot more. If people started hearing from people in the media and eventually from friends, neighbors, relatives, spouses etc. that they were listening to an out-and-out propaganda network, it might have some effect in the margins.
CNN too has t’s share of “challenges”. It’s current format of so-called “panel discussions” is a phony way of reporting news. Almost all of the CNN shows use this pseudo-debate style and it is mind numbing. While CNN used to be the place to go for breaking news, it has become a bad reality TV show with paid mouthpieces for the political parties spouting talking points. The format adds nothing to the viewers understanding of the stories they purport to cover. CNN has a lot to clean up in it’s own house.
I’ll take them seriously if they can get away from 18 talking heads yammering at each other to examining a news item with the depth and care of John Oliver, who manages to do it while being funny.
I think anyone involved in sophisticated persuasion is familiar with the backfire effect. But I’m not sure that not at all challenging implicit beliefs and assertions like “Fox is a legitimate news network free of liberal bias” is helpful either. I’d avoid telling an individual listener he or she was wrong and stupid and a dupe for listening. But for this “they’re propaganda” argument to be out there in the forum might deepen any doubts those people had. I’m not sure about that, no studies to cite, but silence just doesn’t seem like the way to go to me. TBH I doubt that’s exactly what you’re suggesting, of course, but just saying.
I do have to add one downer caveat, is that coming before or after you pry them away from Face Book?
Noting that Zuck took his oops we did it again stance. The little bit I have read of his comments, I see nothing meaningful being done.
Combining “journalistic integrity” with “Fox News” in the same thought is the ultimate oxymoron.
Most likely this is because virtually all of Fox’s so called “journalists” are truth and fact-impaired intellectual morons
…and the state run cable weighs in…that didn’t take any time!
This is better, because Fox News isn’t state-run TV. Rather, Fox News runs the state.
They’d answer it’s two different audiences, though, and that talents like John Oliver are very rare. I would agree, though, that the educated urban and suburban demos are getting a lot of validation from some very smart comedians and it’s having an effect. At least the Oliver model is out there for some of the cooler execs to ponder. Long story short I don’t know too many easy answers or short roads to better civic discourse.
Stop it, Jeff. You turned CNN into a Jerry Springer episode.
I don’t know anyone who has a simple answer to the fragmentation of the media world, and the ability of people to avoid opinions that challenge their own. It’s a technological aggravation of a huge human weakness.
I think it’s awesome that this is getting said out loud finally.
True, but Jeff has added to the three ring circus.
Quite True, but Fox is also a PARTY RUN propaganda organ, only at this point in time, the “PARTY” consists almost entirely of the Koch Brothers, the Mercers, Sheldon Adelson, Foster Friess, Paul Singer, Woody Johnson, Norman Braman, Ken Langone, Joe Ricketts, Peter Thiel, and of course, Rupert Murdoch and a host of Russians If any Repuglicans or anybody who works at Fox fail to believe that these oligarchs own the party and Fox, lock, stock and barrel, then they are living in an alternate universe
.
Guess who’s going to be targeted in tomorrow’s tweet storm. Well trolled, Mr. Zucker. Well trolled. Didn’t even name him.
