Yet if the military does such a thing it isn’t a “stunt”. An aircraft carrier has many support ships and aircraft that accompany it, everywhere. We sail one along the coast of North Korea as a “show of strength” and to remind them we possess all this advanced weaponry and capabilities. We’re not actually going to attack North Korea, so what demonstration of strength has this accomplished? Are we afraid they’ve forgotten we own these ships? Everybody involved knows the ships exist, what they can do, and that they can get there and do it on fairly short notice. Yet we spend untold millions flopping our cock out on the table and measuring it in front of everyone. WTF? Pence’s trip cost about 5 minutes worth of travel for a carrier battle group.
You’d have thought that in their oh so very honest approach at “draining the swamp” that at the least they could have used Betsy’s private plane … hell, doesn’t Trump still have a plane or two lying around, and “untold wealth” at his disposal?
A rising tide, whether it’s good water or swamp still ends up being flood waters … you’d think they’d have realized that by now, but maybe that’s just another part of being a climate change denier.
Thanks for the Groucho line. We need more funny.
Umm, those boats have to be in the water anyway. AF2 didn’t have to be in the air, and a stadium full of football fans didn’t have to be screened, etc. etc.
“If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable,” - Justice William Brennan, after SCOTUS struck down 2 anti-flag burning laws in 1989 and 1990.
And when is a duck not a duck according to the MSM?
When it’s a canard.
Manning owns at least 21 Papa Johns franchises. He knows that corporate policy is to not offer healthcare to all those employees who cook the foul things. Peyton Manning is a poster boy for the greed that has so poisoned America to the detriment of the people who make the money for him. Papa Johns was the intentional poster boy for cutting employees hours to 28 so as to avoid having to offer healthcare under the ACA when just increasing the price of each nasty pie by 15 cents would have covered the entire cost. Peyton Manning deserves condemnation not praise. He has made very bad choices as to whom he is in bed with.
I guess that makes sense, its argumentative if nothing else.[quote=“steviedee111, post:141, topic:63435”]

By your same standard, the whole ‘cock-flopping’ around NK is just a mere pittance in comparison to all the ‘cock-flopping’ that is the whole US military.
This doesn’t justify Pence’s wasteful expense any more than our overall waste concerning the bloated military. And I for one have been raging on about this bloat for decades that is supposedly for our good and in our names.
Fuck it seems to be your opinion. Might as well give in and take it.
I’ll die kneeling long before that ever happens and only after a lifetime of giving a fuck and working against what I despise and for what I believe in.
To put it mildly.
The entire battle group doesn’t have to cruise to the far western edge of the Pacific theater to remind the North Koreans they exist.
You own a car that’s on the road every day to work. If your job was 10 miles from the house you wouldn’t take a circuitous route 50 miles out of your way to remind commuters you owned the car. You’d go out of your way IF THE SITUATION URGENTLY DEMANDED IT. Those ships and sailors can train and stay in good working order without the unnecessary cost of trolling adversaries for the thrill of it.
No, I’m saying Pence’s trip has generated outrage magnitudes greater than any outrage the public expresses about military waste and bloat and cock measuring. Trump could announce he was quadrupling the defense budget and the public wouldn’t flinch. “Well, we can never be too prepared!” would be the reception. “Here’s my Social Security, just make sure you buy some good bombs with it, none of those cheapies we dropped on Bosnia.”
Almost there.
Taxpayers Spent More Than $200K For Pence To Attend Colts Game He Planned to Walk Out Of
A quarter of a million dollars for a petty political stunt. Not to mention how much money was wasted with the press, other political cohorts that needed to be there, security at the game and the time wasted everyone except Pence could have been doing something better. Amazing.
Honest question because I don’t know much about military strategy - don’t the carrier and everything associated with it have an actual role to play if NK attacks?
North Korea has hundreds of artillery batteries buried just across the DMZ. Military strategists are skeptical any amount of non-nuclear response to those batteries letting loose on South Korea could prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths. A carrier battle group could unleash everything at its disposal and mitigate damned little of the carnage, and that’s assuming not that it occasionally cruised by, but that it is almost permanently stationed within range of the artillery. If North Korea decides to kill a bunch of people we’re not stopping it in the early stages, and the early stages are when the majority of deaths will occur.
Actually I believe they were ordered to remain on the media bus. Most if any never went into the stadium. Haven’t seen it mentioned in this thread but even the photo that Pence used in his tweet about why he left was from three years ago.
How about their ‘CENTS’ of entitlement…CHA-CHING. Drain the tax-payer’s coffer. 200/m is just the tip of the ice berg, there was a whole lot more money spent on his abuse-of-power trip.
I’m outraged and I’ve called EVERY elected I can thibk of to rant
I’m tired of footing the bill for HIS POWER TRIP.
Every minute of every day 24/7 there is some GD crap Trump is pulling and I’ GD sick’n tired of him,
I was responding to this:
But your point seems to be that we don’t really need that carrier battle group, not the cost of moving it to Korea as opposed to New Zealand. Personally I find it hard to equate expression of military power in order to achieve diplomatic ends with a VP making purely spurious trips on AF2 just to pull a purely political stunt, and a small-minded one at that. But I think I see your point.
I’m sure it was, if you get off the bus you’re out of the pool, on your own, and you can’t get a ticket to get inside anyway, losers.
Surely there’s video, though - wasn’t the game broadcast?
Only because Fox was contractually obligated to show up with cameras and crew. Three small neighborhoods each in Indianapolis and San Francisco had it on while they washed the car and hosed out the garage.
