Obama should have fired him. And yeah… I know the GOP would have screamed bloody murder. I do hope that Mueller can somehow make amends…
That’s why it amused the shit out of me the way Trump fired him.
Not that this excuses Trump’s behavior in the least. I am perfectly capable of enjoying the sandbagging of one irredeemable douchebag, while being appalled by the motivations of the irredeemable douchebag that did the sandbagging.
Despite Josh Marshall’s odd insistence that Comey was TRYING to do the right thing, I feel that there’s enough evidence here to say pretty confidently that Comey did his level best to hurt Hillary and install Trump into the White House. And he was willing to tarnish his reputation and break protocol in the process. The only thing he WASN’T willing to do was put his ass on the line LEGALLY for Trump. There was no way he was going to risk his own incarceration.
Which is the real reason Trump didn’t trust him. Trump wants to surround himself only with people willing to sacrifice their own freedoms for him
So Comey acted on fake Russian disinformation because he wanted to protect the FBI/DoJ (and his) reputation by going out and throwing the election and thereby destroying his reputation.
Thanks a lot fucker.
“Then-FBI Director James Comey acted on information that he knew was fabricated by Russian intelligence…”
And Republicans will still claim the Kremlin had no influence on the outcome of the Presidential race.
Of course, the GOP will scream at the top of its lungs about unfair election outcomes…
If Jon Ossoff wins that special election in Georgia.
Can anyone please explain to me how what Russia did is not an act of war?
And why the hell doesn’t almost anyone have their hair on fire about it? Frankly, I’ve seen enough. I’m not saying we need to go to war, but a strong response is required.
The goalposts have been set already that unless there is incontrovertible proof the vote tabulation was altered by Russia, then this is all liberal whining in their minds.
They will never entertain the idea they were used by Trump and Russia. After all they are getting what they want. Reactionary fascists o the bench, and the validation to hate the “liberal” media and Democrats.
If events turn their latent racism and bigotry towards “illegals” and muslims (not to mention liberals in general) into taking matters to the next level (assaulting the press for asking questions and not paying a price for it) it will become a true nightmare which the country (and world) may not survive.
Is there a Cliff Note’s version of this available? Or “Treason for Dummies”?
I don’t know which is worse: that the FBI fell for fake emails as part of a Russian scheme to influence the election, or that the FBI knew that the emails were fake and part of a scheme to influence the election, but still went ahead and influenced the election because they didn’t want to maybe look bad.
Oh for Fs sake.
If Jon Ossoff wins that special election in Georgia.
Please don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen. You make me laugh too often to see you expire after another large chunk of Democratic voters sit on their hands in an off-year election.
As for Comey, so much for the short-lived rehabilitation of his reputation after Trump fired him. I still don’t trust him, and he would have to do some significant things to change that.
still went ahead and influenced the election because they didn’t want to maybe look bad.
Given that there was a powerful faction within the FBI out of the New York office that had the express purpose of harming Clinton, I don’t think the FBI’s damaging actions should be ascribed to simply not wanting to look bad.
If he didn’t realized it was fake and acted on it, that would be shocking.
If he knew it was fake and acted on it, that would be shocking, too.
So, either way, it is shocking.
You beat me to it, ghost. There is no way this would look better any way you slice it.
You know, this doesn’t bother me any more than the original story, in fact I am little heartened that he was not misled. Comey’s motivation in all of this seems to have been intense concerned about the rogue guys in the FBI releasing inaccurate stuff, I remember reading that was the reason for the October Surprise and that was the reason for going public here. I don’t agree with the choices – the non-partisan thing would have been to gone to White House – but this was a pretty fucked up situation.
Trump: Now you all know why I fired him. He went after Hillary with bad intelligence. If he had not, I would be spending all my time in Mar A Lago and would have had my own Cable. Instead, he made me POTUS. What a douchebag.
I see you’ve decided against running for Morale Officer.

Effectively it’s not an act of war because the beneficiaries would have to respond in some way, which is not going to happen as long as the treason-enabling party is in power. (not that I’m telling you anything you don’t already realize)
Comey wittingly or unwittingly made himself Putin’s bitch. That’s just MFin’ fantastic. A wee bit more credulousness is generally expected of the director of the FBI, but, in fact, he’s no more tech savvy than a typical senior citizen.
Chortle!
