The door of a prosecutor’s office is where the name-calling and rabble-rousing stops doing Trump much good. If you can’t make a credible case for your innocence, oh well! But every superpower has some limitation. This is yours, Trump. The legal system. Buena suerte, amigo.
The best part of this story is that the NY State AG is involved. It makes it impossible for Trump to quash this by dumping Sessions and Rosenstein, firing Mueller, etc. after November 6.
I had speculated back in the spring/summer that the now famous ‘smokeout by the courthouse’ when Cohen was hanging out at a bench with Rotem Rosen and other connected folks (much wealthier than Trump) instead of going to court was about solidarity for Cohen and a statement against Trump. That looks clearer in hindsight. The reason Cohen pleaded guilty but didn’t sign a cooperation agreement was to protect those guys. Under his current arrangement, he is volunteering information about the things related to Trump without coughing up details on his other questionable activities (i.e., massive money laundering schemes). SDNY has what I think is a gentleman’s agreement with Cohen that as long as he’s clean with them about the Trump related topics and his stuff checks out, he won’t be charged additionally for other crimes that he may have committed and they won’t press him on his potential other non-Trump related contacts and crimes.
That’s a good deal from my perspective. I want to nail the Trump family. Don’t care about the other guys.
Looks to me now that Trump will be massively fined for state crimes, not federal. Some of these “crimes” / fraud / money-laundering can no longer be adjudicated federally, but will be by New York state. I hope the NY prosecutor is the smartest toughest lawyer on the planet and knows how to make many of these Trumps suffer.
