Itâs stupid nonsense like this that makes me regret my association with BLMâŚ
Hillary was a busy little bee in the 90âs writing NAFTA and mass incarcerating people. Thatâs probably why she has so much to discuss at private fundraisers.
âYou know what, no oneâs ever asked me before. Youâre the first person to ask me.â
What was the question the woman asked her? I couldnât understand because of the background noise.
I think the activist was worried about what would happen, but it all went fairly well. Compare the gentle treatment she received to the treatment from security and and attendees at donald rallies. I hope Ms. Clinton follows up with her, because âbring to heelâ is a denigrating remark, even in context.
The Clinton statement is: âThey are not just gangs of kids anymore. They are often the kinds of kids that are called âsuper-predators.â No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended that way, but first we have to bring them to heel.â The statement was made concerning her advocacy in favor of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. Even considering context, itâs still a disquieting choice of words.
What office did Hillary Clinton occupy in 1996? Asking her to answer for her husbandâs decisions is patronizing and sexist.
Most of these kids have no idea what DC,NYC, Chicago or other cities were like in the 80s and 90s. DCâs murder rate was more than 4x what it is now, so was NYC. Chicago- as bad as it is now- had a murder rate twice as what it is today. Black people were urging lawmakers to do something. They overshot the goal by a country mile, unfortunately, and that blood is on many hands- black and white- including the Clintons and Bernie, who voted for it. But also on the many community leaders and black members of Congress who also voted for it.
For me, whatâs done is done. For the candidates, itâs a wash. An apology? Sheâs distanced herself from her husbandâs policies, heâs shown remorse for his vote and they both have policy papers on how to start reversing the damage the bill has done. If you ask a black person who lived through that era do they understand why that bill got passed, they most likely wonât agree with the outcomes but they definitely understand. Thereâs a reason that outside of ivory tower academics who never lived in those neighborhoods, the people mostly harping on it are black millenials- who werenât alive during the crack era- or white liberals using it as a cudgel against the Clintons. Notice the silence of a whole host of black people who can remember that era vividly. Thereâs a reason- it was a very complicated time.
Well, she did traffic in the super-predator nonsense in the 90s, so thereâs that.
Hillary as Super-Predator? Hmmm.
And today sheâs talking about systemic racism. Canât wait to see her asked to apologize for that in 20 years.
What? The audience didnât shout down and beat up the protester? And Clinton didnât egg them on? Civilized, you say? Well, in Trump world thatâs being weak. I wonât use his likely adjective.
And it is extremely irritating to have these beginner ârevolutionariesâ, dancing to various corporate tunes via their smart devices, pull their smug, know-it-all act before elders responsible for the freedoms currently enjoyed, just sayinâ.
How about considering it in the context of the times. I have a family members and several friends in jail for life for crimes committed during that time. My cousin, living in what is now one of the most sought after areas now in DC, killed multiple people by the time he was 18. Heâs my family and we grew up together, so I wouldnât call him a super predator. But I would understand if someone did.
Trashing John Lewis and whatnot. I canât even hear them.
I didnât say that I endorsed asking her for an apology. I merely was responding to your attempt to suggest that she was uninvolved with the issue.
âand they both have policy papers on how to start reversing the damage the bill has done.â
Well now we all feel better. Are you sure this line wasnât spoon-fed to you by the Clinton Team?
Excuse me? Letâs break your reply down. So youâre saying I canât think for myself and need to be spoon-fed ideas? And people wonder why Bernie has a black people problem. Itâs the condescending assholes like yourself.
Thank you for that post. It means a lot to me. I was a white kid in the '70s and '80s, living in the mountains due west of Washington, D.C. We heard an awful lot about the crime and murder rates of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. To this day, my siblings wonât go to big cities due to those childhood memories. I remember very well the leaders like Mayor Barry begging the feds to do something. Yes, they did go way overboard. Not much common sense went into what they came up with.
Sean, is it okay that they criticize their elders for the crappy economic future they face? Or the fact that their elders have presided over a drop in wages, or the every increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of the few? Or the failed wars that have spread death and famine around the world? Or ⌠well, you get the picture. The youngins have a right to protest.
I think this shows Hillary is not very good at going âoff scriptâ. She could have taken advantage of this time to try to connect better but her response and the whole crowd of wealthy contributors around her are very dismissive and do not project a very emphatic picture.
