What amuses me is the GOPers trying to distance themselves from Trump. After all they are the ones who created this son of a bitch. The ingredients had been on the shelf for decades, and when they finally put them together the result was totally unpalatable.

The Rethugs stopped being the “party of Lincoln” in 1964 when they turned their backs on the Civil Rights movement. Following 1968, Nixon’s southern strategy cemented the flip by piling the southern D’s into their wagon. The two parties effectively flipped, the only remaining standards from the old days are the R’s attachment to Wall Street and the D’s ties to Labor (for what it’s worth nowadays).

Tronald Dump continues the R’s trip down the road to being an almost exclusively white party.

I’m pretty sure it became the party of Trump long before Trump came along, back when they were choosing presidential nominees like Goldwater, Nixon, and Reagan; back when they were glorifying mean-spiritedness by making Gingrich Speaker of the House; and back when they made the vulgarities of conservative talk radio and the propaganda of Fox News their standards for journalism and reality.
