I love how he and the rest of the GOP are making this big, watery eyed plea for unity. ha yeah right
One of my bookmarked sites has yet to remove its headline saying: “Trump still refuses to say if he’ll accept election results.”
A momentary smile on a bleak day.
Does this mean that you’re not waiting for Trump to incarcerate her?
they have a weak majority in the senate. the dems can use the filibuster like the repubs did. and mid terms are in 2 years. they best behave.
I’m sure that Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress will see it the same way that you do.
observe em.
Give em hope and tell em that better days are coming. Adversity strikes us all, but more importantly hold their congressman and senator responsible for whatever happens.
folks have to learn somehow.
on?
And his “doesn’t” is how we’ve come to this point in the first place…
Classy is fabulous and my heart breaks for Mrs.C and America but I don’t think it will mean much to the angry, poor and obviously crushingly hard-working mid 30 year-old white rural men I saw voting for the first time yesterday.
or sided with the Libertarians
Now that the election is complete Trump can return to what he does best. Destroying his enemies and those that question, resist, or insult him in some slight. Ivanka and Mike can run the country freeing up his evenings for invective and hate.
careful with that ax
Classier state dinners, with strippers.
it works if you have a final goal that’s backed by many minor ones. This idea of obstruction for the sake of is hunky dory, but to do so a) when a president elect is about to take office and b) when you have to offer something to counter that is asking for it.
“We must accept this result and then look to the future.”
Oh yes, the future…

The list is endless…and they want to do this while smarming at me about unity? NEVER. I PLEDGE TO NEVER ALLOW THEM A MOMENT’S PEACE OR A SINGLE SECOND’S COOPERATION. EVER. THEY WILL NOW HAVE WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN RETURNED TO THEM IN SPADES.
And don’t come at me with your spineless Dem/liberal “we have to be better than that” crap. No. We don’t. We just got schooled on what works for 8 whole fucking years and lost EVERYTHING we managed to eek out in a few months because we so primly and smugly were “better than that.” Never again. Learn the lesson or get out of the way. The GOP is about to push Humpty Dumpty off the fucking wall and no, there’s probably no putting him back together again. So you’ll have to excuse me while I prepare for the only satisfactory alternative becoming revenge and how we exact it.
nope but we better come with something other than middle fingers in the air.
Trump is a protected man for now.
I have my own concession speech.
Trump won the election. He exposed, and often took advantage of, many flaws in our press, in our people, in our political leaders, in our religious leaders, in our laws, in law enforcement and the courts, in our education system, and in our economic system. I have cursed at, worried about, mocked, bitched about, and hated many of those flaws, often online. His victory, along with GOP control of all Federal power, tells me that I will have so much more to curse and hate and worry about in the years ahead.
America made its choice, and now I will make mine. I will make my world smaller, at least for a while. I have my own flaws. I’d like to give those more attention, and I don’t make any progress on that while sitting on my butt and telling the internet (even fine communities like this one) what I think. I won’t stop caring, or contributing how I can, but I will de-emphasize awareness of what is going on in the larger world.
I choose not to spend my time worrying about what Trump might do and what he might allow Congress to do. I’m going to make my life better while he is President-elect. It might even become a habit. When President Trump, inevitably, does something dreadful for the country or those who live here, it will be a stronger me deciding how to react.
In spite of, or even because of, the way America voted yesterday, I will count on American voters to demand a change if a Trump administration and GOP Congress make things worse for America. My wife, a political scientist, sometimes responds to my alarm over the actions of the GOP Congress/etc. by telling me that voters make corrections when elected officials go too far. I counter with the fact that people will be hurt in the meanwhile, and she gives a kind of that’s-life-in-a-democracy shrug. I will make an effort to adapt to that reality.
I am, in short, choosing to be more strategic in how I choose to spend my time and what I choose to devote my thoughts to. I believe it will give me a healthier, more peaceful, more satisfying, and more effective existence. It will mean less time with the wonderful TPM commenters, but not zero time. I concede this election, and that the GOP will control the Federal government, but I will not give up the fight against bigotry, injustice, exploitation, and all of the other problems that weaken America.
When some people say the Democrats should obstruct just like the GOP, they do not recognize the fact years of such attempts from their side to delegitimize the political institutions of this country has inflicted significant long-term damage to the well-being of this society. Quite frankly, such short sighted comments to the effect that the Democrats should do what the GOPers do instead of placing the blame on where it should be anger me.
Secretary Clinton is being magnanimous and putting country above all. A true patriot.
To me, several aspects of the voting patterns seem very suspicious. I think there should be more thought given to the possibility that the vote count or voting machines were rigged.
Thanks ott …ditto —
I feel the same way. I’ve invested so much mental and emotional energy in the last year and neglected so many aspects of my personal life that I’m ready to move on. This is my exit and I’m going to rejoin my life in progress.
Thank you for expressing this kindred thought so well.
