I think what matters is how Hillary treats Bernie when she seals her claim to the nomination. From the start, I don’t think Bernie intended to divide the Democratic party, as evidenced by him running in the Democratic primaries and not as an independent “Democratic Socialist”; in the end Bernie will accept the will of the voters.
On the other hand, Bernie throws a bone to the left-leaning parts of the Democratic party; the ones who would prefer single-payer health care and want some strict rules on the casino we call Wall Street. I personally support Bernie because he is the only one who supports Social Security with all his heart and all the energy he can muster. It concerns me that Social Security was the crown jewel of Democrats, and now the only one 100% in support of it is an independent who tends to pal around with Democrats. I’d like some re-assurance that the “center” of the Democratic party has not moved so far to the right that Democrats are willing to chip away at it to get the stuff they “really” want. I “really” want to not worry about being impoverished in my old age.
So a lot depends on the final peace between Hillary and Bernie. They represent the practical, DLC side of the Democratic party and the generous, liberal, dream-chasing side of the Democratic party. If, in the end, Hillary treats Bernie with respect and demonstrates the two sides fit together, and if Bernie campaigns for Hillary with the same energy he throws into all his convictions, we can have a team that is unbeatable.
I like the look on Hillary’s face in the picture with the article. As much as to say,
‘You want me to tell him to stop saying things like this? Puh-leeze.’
Please talk me down…I know it’s one year out, and most sane people aren’t paying attention, but I need to hear it. Please…I have a straw in a bottle of Kettle One…Tell me to put it down and why!!!
Have any of you ever been polled? I have never been. Not once!
HRC will in fact get the nomination, so Bern people have between now and then to decide if they think they’ll regret being pure when a R gets in the WH because they sat it out. This is doom and gloom forecasting of the worst kind because it says Democrats don’t care to show how much of a Democrat they are by getting out and voting for the designated Democratic candidate.
It’s a poll even if it is from a respectable pollster. It’s somebody on a phone telling somebody else on a phone what they think they might want to hear.
This is my go to link from NYT, updated literally every day. Lots of wonky type info and statistics, so I’ll cite the crucial take away in the hope you’ll not do anything rash…
HRC has 90% chance of winning the nomination, and Carson has 9% unlike Rubio who has a 44% chance
You know, not treating Bernie or his supporters with even a modicum of respect is the surest possible way to make a problem were there should be none. So take your smug
and stick it up your ass. Want Hillary to throw away the votes of the left half of the party? Just come up with some asinine way to say Bernie supporters have no choice – they will show you they do.
Remember Democrats can’t afford to trow away even 5% of the votes Obama got in his re-election.
I read LGB’s comment a couple of times to see if there was something in there deserving of the vitriol in your comment - I thought I missed something. I didn’t. I have no idea why you think anyone is going to pay any attention to what you believe when you cannot seem to communicate in a way that does anything other than alienate everyone else.
What is true is that you should decide who you will vote for based on your opinion of the candidates, not on imaginary putdowns by people not directly affiliated with the candidates’ campaigns.
Of course you have a choice. You may choose any candidate in the running between now and the nomination, and after the nomination you may choose the Democratic nominee (very likely to be Hillary) or the Republican nominee, or a third party candidate, or stay home. And that’s what she said — you have until now and then to decide if you’re still on board. So what’s smug? She’s obviously hoping you’ll support our team even if the team captain isn’t your first pick (just as come November 2004, I had to vote for John Kerry and not Howard Dean).
She said " Bern people have between now and then to decide if they think they’ll regret being pure when a R gets in the WH" which is a put-down, not an affirmation of a voter’s right to choose.
Whoever you are you don’t get to talk to me like that. Somebody suggested Bern’s people might sit out the election and opt for for party purity, that’s someone you direct your comments to because to do that would cause the Democrats a world of hurt.
