Because the language of the two statements was so close to identical, I would hazard a guess that they probably spent a couple minutes toward the end of the meeting agreeing on what they would say about the meeting. If so, the fact that they are coordinating their messaging in this way seems like a good sign of a process of rapprochement that’s well underway.
In my opinion, if you are only a “temporary” dem (I’d bet he’s already changed his party affiliation back to indy), you don’t get to dictate squat!
If the goal is to get concessions at the convention, Bernie way overplayed his hand here. He’s losing leverage by the day. He has become yesterday’s news, his arguments for nomination slip into raving lunacy and Hillary’s lead over Trump in polling continues to grow.
Should have cashed in his hand before California/New Jersey.
I hope you’re wrong, but fear you may be right.
I just purchased a new McLaren F1 with all the money they’ve paid me. . . .
Secretary Clinton will be happy to provide complete transcripts of all of her meetings with Senator Sanders as soon as he’s willing to do the same.
I’m glad they had a nice meeting.
But Bernie has not shown me anything that suggests I can trust him to do the right thing.
You don’t seem to want to unify Democrats at all. Seems like you’re trying to keep them at odds with one another. Either you’re stupid or a fraud. Which is it?
Neither, you dipshit.
I’m not at all like you.
I’d love party unity—but the Bernie-or-busters like you fight it at every turn.
So does Bernie.
He should have suspended his campaign ages ago—and he should endorse Hillary, and should do for her what she did for Obama.
If Bernie is truly interested in beating Trump and unifying the party, he should be ready to nominate Hillary from the floor of the convention and ask for that nomination to be unanimous.
JCS, I wouldn’t even call Sanders more progressive on this. I think being progressive is about real progress, not rhetoric, and ignoring the complexities and differences in regional economies could undermine public support of the whole wage effort. My state, Idaho, pays at the federal minimum ($7.25) and wages are generally low. In Washington, where the Seattle wage increase took effect, the state’s minimum wage is $9.47 and relatively few workers are at the bottom tier. So an increase to $15 would be MORE THAN A DOUBLING in my economically fragile state and would impact a large percentage of workers (60% to 70%, I have read) and it could really bring things down. Business would certainly close and there are few services available for displaced workers in our super-red economy. Recognizing that huge mandated wage increases have consequences may not make a great bumper sticker, but it makes it more likely that this movement to fairer wages will continue to enjoy fairly broad public support and move forward.
You are exactly what’s wrong with corporate Democrats. Your arrogance, elitism and mean-spirit are showing. You think the 40%+ of Democratic primary voters who supported Sanders are “funny”! Are you trying to ensure that Sanders supporters WON’T vote for Clinton? Are you that ignorant?
That was my point. Hillary’s proposal raises the wage rate while allowing for the various state economic differences. I live in Nebraska where we have low wages, low unemployment but relatively high medicaid participation for the “working poor”, thus taxpayers supplement the employers. We need to raise our rate, we did have a law passed that did that to absolutely no harm to the economy, but we need further raises. Fifteen may be a little high. Everything is relative and requires common sense.
This is sooooo last month.
Indeed. More evidence that people on both sides need to let go of their butthurt. As I said, kabuki…
Your skills at psychological projection are amazing.
At least you can claim one accomplishment.
That’s what they’re worth if they don’t put in the two minutes it takes to proofread their articles. Spellcheck is the first and last resort for many of the contributors here. It may not be a big deal to you, but it tells me that they don’t really care about their craft.
Nailed it. How many times has Sanders teased he would “play ball”? It is his MO. The man can not be trusted.
It is quite possible that he won’t endorse Hillary at all.
And it would not surprise me, given his history and the size of his ego.
I’m also an independent who prefers closed primaries. The sole reason I haven’t joined the Democratic party is because I’ve heard they will spam their members in every way possible.
Well I secretly work for the aluminum industry. And your post bodes well for that industry as well as the makers of headgear.
