Discussion: Clinton Responds To Trump Rally: 'Violence Has No Place In Our Politics'

Discussion for article #247291

Ms. Jerde, did this strike you as a newsworthy press release?

(Man, is this site buggy recently.)

It’s also on the front page of the Post under Abby Phillips’ byline. In that story Hillary is blamed for not saying Trumps name while condemning violence. It seems that people want Hillary to condemn violence by Trump supporters but not the violence done by anti-Trump supporters.

I would not be surprised that there has been some violence perpetrated by anti-Trump protesters, but as far as I know, the reports of last night indicate that some fights broke out between Trump supporters and protesters, without any indication as to who instigated the fights. (For what it´s worth, my friend who was at the anti-Trump rally last night said it was peaceful as far as she could see.) OTOH, there have been numerous examples of violence visited upon protesters by Trump supporters prior to last night. So I think it´s fair to say at this point that the violence is primarily coming from that side.

Distracts from Funeral-gate which, as I’ve read in the only recently working comments section, no one is allowed to hold against Hillary.

Hillary’s campaign slogan, “I’ll fight for you” is in appropriate.

She can make a simple mistake, as she obviously cast about for something kind to say about the deceased. She corrected herself right away, since she was thinking of stem cell research which Nancy Reagan did support against the GOP wishes.

Ahhhh actually …Violence has a very solid and secure place in US politics. Kennedy x2, Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Civil War , Not to mention the slaughter of indigenous people , slavery of course was a very well entrenched political apparatus, Jim crow, and on and on! And who can ignore the violence of the current Republican party. Not necessarily physical violence but rather the psychological violence fostered by the Republicans that has helped destroy the idea of a better future for our country. And of course the Adoration of the second amendment that facilitates violence day after day across the entire country!

"Violence has no place in our politics"

Absolutely right! Let’s keep it in our homes, schools, movie theaters, and shopping malls where it belongs.

Three unforced errors this week; 1) TARP/Auto bailout, 2) transcript secrecy, and 3) the Reagans and AIDS. Secretary Clinton has to get a grip on her campaign. Now! (And I am a Clinton supporter!)

Except the auto-bailout TARP issue was not an error. She simply didn’t follow through on the underlying facts and reality and crap-hammer Sanders on his nonsense regarding it. I will agree that putting out out there if you are not willing to follow-through not the punch is bad.

But the reality is that Sanders can spin all he likes, but he voted against the auto industry rescue, and against saving the entire finical system form collapse simply because he wanted to “stick it to banksters”.

Let’s pretend Sanders had other Senators willing to embrace his position on the auto-rescue/TARP bill and killed it. So the auto-resuce did not pass (the GOP opposed it) and TARP did not pass and the finical system collapsed.

How would that have been good for anyone?

Explain how that was the outcome we should have striven for?

We both agree that Senator Sanders would have let the country go into depression rather than “hold his nose” like most Democratic senators did for the good of the country. That was (and is) the story.

My point was that Secretary Clinton did a very poor job at explaining this. And she lost the narrative. That is poor campaigning.

I want the primary campaign to end next Tuesday. Time to pivot to the general.

Agreed.

Also agreed.

Maybe that’s not the story she wanted to go with.

Transcript secrecy? I’m sure she promised Wall Street the moon. Uh huh.

Thanks to years of conservative media bashing, with help from the other end of the spectrum, Hillary has become the liar, untrustworthy, republican-lite, a warmonger.

Based on…

She’s the good wife, mother, grandmother, in public service for years doing good things against all the crap that’s ever been thrown at her.

I support her proudly.

Completely agree. From the start to the end.

yet more — she wanted everyone tp react to trump like they did to charleston church shooting which led Deray to beg her to stop making press releases this week, and also she said she did not know where Sanders was during the 93 health reform whereupon sanders camp released photo of him standing behind her during and thanking him for his support. Yeah its been a good week for Hillary.

which led someone to posit that Jonathan Capeheart will soon prove it wasn’t Sanders in the photo but Bruce Rappaport.
