And here’s Nate’s piece on what happens if Bernie beats the odds and does win in Iowa.
Long story short – he gets a lot of positive press, Hillary gets a lot of “oh my God is Hillary collapsing” coverage, but none of it means anything unless Bernie can make serious inroads in South Carolina. Nate notes, and I agree, that if Bernie were to somehow pull off an upset in South Carolina, then Hillary could be in real trouble. But he doesn’t see a very large chance of that happening even if Bernie sweeps Iowa and New Hampshire, and does well in Nevada – and basically no chance if Bernie loses big in Iowa. Seems like pretty safe bets all the way around.
I agree. Bernie never had much of a chance of beating Hillary. The media always wants a close fight, though, so they’ll do anything to create one. Bernie will probably do about as well as McCain did in 2000 or Gary Hart in 1984-- a few early wins, then nothing.
In the latest poll, from Gravis, she leads by 11 pts. Maybe Bernie’s dirty tricks have caught up to him. He’s a fraud and people are beginning to see it. He doesn’t have any real plans for anything. He never thought he would need to actually come up with plans for the things he wants to do. He expected to just be than angry old man for a while getting some attention for his ideas. Now that he has to come up with something, he puts out a few pages of a press release with some numbers. When people start pointing out the numbers can’t work, he just throws some new numbers out. He has no plans. He’s had years to come up with some, why is he unable to put then together? Because he never thought he would have to.
You are quite right. I support Sanders, but my support is as much or more for making sure no Republican sits in the White House.
In my 68 years, I have never seen
Such a malignant group of GOP candidates
This malignancy combined with both FOX and a MSM unable to challenge them
Such a brainwashed GOP electorate trained by FOX propaganda and MSM neglect
Such a dearth of policy positions of GOP candidates
Such a willingness of these candidates to lie, even things easliy verified as false
Such a willingness of these candidates to use racist imagery from the Jim Crow years
Such a contempt for the white working class of these GOP candidates
Such a torpor, somnolence, nonchalance as coming from those who would do battle with GOP voters
Such a combination of need (Climate, national security, inequality, etc) ignored by the GOP
In short, aside of organizations like Ku Klux Klan and similar threats, I have never witnessed such an organization devoted to Repression and Reaction as the modern Republican Party.
The Party of “Uncle Fred” (who’s just the nicest guy) sitting across the family Easter Dinner table.
Yep. Everything else is just noise. Unless they did something special, PPP’s methodology (and, don’t get me wrong, they’re pretty good) is particularly ill-suited to caucus states.
Yes, of course, Sanders’ numbers went up. He didn’t even have name recognition in the beginning. And novelty value leads people to overrate him. But then reality sets in and people get to see both candidates, warts and all. The real race starts only when both candidates are known.
