Discussion: Clinton Hits Sanders On Gun Control: You've 'Voted With The NRA'

It’s not an insult. It’s the practical application of paying dues to an organization with these policies that are using your dues payment to advocate.

I didn’t say anything about making enemies of responsible gun owners. You don’t get to call yourself a responsible gun owner any longer if you pay dues to an organization that openly and actively advocates against ALL SAFETY MEASURES. We aren’t talking an organization that advocates for the right of responsible gun owners to bear arms. We are talking about an organization that actively and with great passion, advocates against ALL safety measures. You lose the right to call yourself a responsible gun owner if you contribute to that organization.

No we don’t. We don’t need them at all. It’s very unlikely that vast majority are going to vote liberal anyway.

EDIT: And frankly, catering to this group of people, who represent less than 1% of the U.S. population, is how we’ve gotten so far down this road in the first place.

Can I cut in? If gun violence is a the concern you say it is why is running against gun control a political winner? Why is “defending” the Second Amendment all that matters? Why do gun ales go up after a mass killing?

Because being “anti-gun” is not the same thing as being “anti-irresponsible” ? And like it or not the Democrats are perceived as anti-gun. How in the world can a whopper like “they want to take your guns away” survive unless the American people have succumbed to and no longer doubt that bullshit GOP claim?

Bernie Sanders never voted for gun violence. You sound like a FOX panelist when you imply crap like that. He voted for a piece of legislation that has a popular definition of the 2nd Amendment as its core. Any sensible Democrat ( if its not too late ) won’t advocate general gun sales restrictions. They will stand behind the reasonable and prudent control of sales. If you want to hunt you can have a gun. If you want to target shoot you can have a gun. If you robbed a bank 10 years ago you cannot. That’s all.

Yeah…the liberal left has been “catering” to gun owners…You betcha! What fucking planet are you walking around on? Here on earth the Democrats are losing their asses because of their anti-gun positions. The NRA has a lot of political clout. The Democrats should have picked up on that before they spit in its face. Now you are stuck with your anti-NRA ( read anti Second Amendment ) position when sentiment FOR the NRA are at an all time high.

The Democratic position is, If I have it right, one of making sure the wrong folks don’t get guns. Admirable. No one thinks that though because of crap talk like yours. They think you want to take their guns and ammunition away. You see them as your enemy and have no tolerance because some, not all, pay dues that fund political positions you don’t share. You’ve achieved nothing but a bad image with that NRA crap. No one says you have to like them. I don’t. But I don’t mention them. I don’t see unnecessarily offending folks as a ticket to success. And there is the fact the NRA has been kicking Liberal ass for years now.

If you buy a gun today in most cases you are entitled to a FREE NRA membership for a year. No dues.

No, not just liberals (pretty sure I didn’t say that…you keep making up things I’ve supposedly said). Gun policy in general has been catering to gun owners. I’ll leave the snarky insults to you because that says far more about you than it does me.

The NRA is losing constantly at the local and state levels, so no. Spit in its face? Please.

58% of Americans polled view the NRA in favorable terms. How long do you really think that’s going to last when they continually advocate against reasonable safety measures? Juxtapose that with the 80% that favor background checks and it’s an untenable position for the NRA, but it’ll be fun to watch them lose their clout as they take irrational positions on gun safety in public.

Again, the NRA is losing badly at the state and local level. Not just losing legislation brought up to combat them, it’s legislation they are trying to get passed. States are moving toward background checks on their own. The open carry nut jobs that the NRA had a chance to combat is now making it harder for licensed concealed carry folks in Texas to actually conceal and carry into businesses. Businesses aren’t just turning away open carry, they are forbidding concealed too now. Welcome to the result of the NRA policies and overplaying their hand. It’s a raging success.

The end is coming and it’s catering to these people and their freak paranoia that has gotten us into this position in the first place. The proper approach would be for the NRA to have come to the table and broker reasonable gun control legislation. The SAME gun control legislation that Wayne LaPierre actually advocated a couple of decades ago. Now they’ll end up with whatever gets passed and they have to deal with it because people are getting sick of getting shot while going about their daily lives.

The failure to even have reasonable discussions means that when legislation is moving forward away from you, you lose all say in the outcome.

Great. Then I would imagine, as a responsible gun owner, they wouldn’t re-up that when it expires and pay for a group that advocates against ALL SAFETY MEASURES. If they pay their dues, they do not get to hold the mantle of responsible gun owner just like I don’t get to support the KKK or anti-abortion groups and then still claim I’m actually not racist or I’m pro-abortion.

The NRA was once an organization for responsible gun owners. They haven’t been that organization for a long time.

Keep it up. Its been going to swimmingly for you. Dem’s own the joint! Grow up…you suck at rationale and are addicted to it.

Perfectly said AllieBean. The NRA is the marketing arm for gun manufacturers. They’re part of the problem but the manufacturers sit high on the hill away from the fray and but for a handful of Dems are not in any way held accountable. American taxpayers have funded manufacturers in ways to make guns safer but they refuse to implement new gun safety measures. Always some BS excuse.

And this is where I find the president lacking in leadership. Almost 40% of gun manufacturer’s revenue comes from our government; federal, state, MIC, law enforcement, etc. That’s where the leverage is but the president doesn’t want to go there for some reason of which I can’t figure out.

Not dismissing him but he is a politician, not an artist or an architect.

I never even thought of that Darcy…wow, I wonder why not…

I don’t know anything about government contracting rules, so maybe there’s an issue…
