Discussion: Clinton Campaign Hits Sanders For 'Using A Karl Rove Attack'

Discussion for article #244897

Yeah, but Saint Bernard had no problem using the NRA to get himself elected. To what end? Heā€™s a cranky old back bencher whoā€™s been in Congress for decades and accomplished relatively little except using his bully pulpit to tilt at windmills.

ā€œNow heā€™s taking his cues from them, using a Karl Rove attack to go after her,ā€ she said. ā€œBoth Sanders and the Republicans know that Hillary is the candidate who can take them on and ensure the White House isnā€™t in Donald Trump or Ted Cruzā€™s hands.ā€

Huh? Sounds Rovian to me. Well, I suppose I should be grateful the Republicans are acting as self-destructive as the Democrats usually do this election cycle.

Why would Hillary have any issue with being tied to Wall Street? Senator from New York, long record as a moderate-conservative Democrat, raising money hand over fist from those self-same Wall Street financiers. If sheā€™s that concerned about it, be distinct about what changes she would make to reverse some of the conservative deregulation Bill helped the Republicans with in the 1990s. Why run away so hard?

Bernie is butt hurt Goldman never asked him to speak.

I donā€™t think anything on Sanderā€™s to-do list would be actionable with a GOP House, and his interest/knowledge of foreign policy is still nothing. I love lots of his positions, but donā€™t think heā€™d win more than 10 states. I just donā€™t. I suspect every young SJW will be telling us on Facebook how they are going to ā€œhold my nose and vote for Hillaryā€. The dumb ones who never show up for off-year elections wonā€™t show up at all. Democrats need to fall in love, I guess. Demanding purity from politicians is an odd thing on either side.

Hillary has NO SUCH RECORD as a ā€œmoderate-conservative Democratā€! Why are you parroting this gibberish? She was deemed the 11th MOST Liberal member of the Senate from 2001-2009. More liberal than Joe Biden, or Barack Obama. So thereā€™s that, but I know you are steadfast in your preconceived notions!

Last night I spoke with an old friend with whom Iā€™ve clashed politically over the years. In 2000 I told her and her husband that they could not risk a vote for Nader ā€“ but they did it anyway. In 2004, shortly before the general election, I told her I knew Kerry was going to lose ā€“ her response was to accuse me of being a negative person. In 2007, I told her that I was volunteering for Obama ā€“ and invited her to help. She responded that she didnā€™t think a black man could ever be elected president and so she supported Hillary. Last night, she said they were all in for Sanders. Sheā€™s the perfect opposite barometer! Iā€™ve been on the fence, but this morning, I KNOW I WILL CAUCUS FOR HILLARY.

HRC is a realist, as opposed to an idealist (which is ironic, because the idealists among us can not see that she is un-electable). She knows that to get anything done, a moderate approach has the most chance of success. She is very moderate as evidenced by her stance on single payer.

That being said, her claim that the GOP is attacking her because they fear her more than Sanders is just hot air. They attack her because it has been a fore gone conclusion (for months) that Sanders wonā€™t be on the ticket.

Exactly right. If they thought they were likely to be facing Bernie, they would be mostly attacking him and ignoring Hillary. And if Bernie does pull ahead, they will.

To the Republicans, the fact that their current attacks on Hillary are being used by Hillary to attack Bernie, contributing to intra-party division in the Democratic party, is just a bonus.

As to the question of whether the GOP fears Bernie less than HIllary, that could well be. But the real question is ā€“ should they?

Whenever I see stuff like this Iā€™m always reminded of Custerā€™s reaction to the mule skinner

DUH!
Let me repeat that: DUH!
You always want to run against the weakest candidate the opposition has.
Whereas the Republican Base is doing a fine job of picking their biggest idiot for us to run against, we still can snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory if we pick Beanie for our standard bearer (cause he is SO PURE you know.)
The Good is the Enemy of the Perfect! Only the ideologically PURE get our vote! That will show them!
Beanie = George McGovern II the sequel.

Agreed. I am glad Bernie ran, to keep Hillary left, and not allow her to stray toward the right-wing ā€œcenterā€. But letā€™s face it, none of the major candidates for president, from either party, can get anything through the next Congress. Maybe, if sheā€™s lucky and works hard, Hillary can get a good off-year election in 2018, and get near a Democratic House.

Clinton/Sanders, so play niceā€¦

Funny, I donā€™t remember spending the night together and getting to know each other this intimately.

So, instead of attacking you personally since I havenā€™t seen the photos of our alcohol-fueled bender together, Iā€™ll offer that Hillary has been a strong supporter of AIPAC, who is consistently ā€˜conservativeā€™ on issues of foreign policy, especially Israel. As well, she aligns herself with The Family (or The Fellowship, whatever), a pretty socially conservative Christian group. She also became a supporter of DOMA after it was a non-issue. So, perhaps you donā€™t get out much, but sheā€™s always the most liberal on the campaign trail, but her day-top-day is as a pro-business moderate to conservative Democrat with strong Christian leanings.

Iā€™m not a big Bernie fan, but am also not delusional about Hillary.

Itā€™s an easy argument to make, and may well be true (at least as far as what Republicans think). But remember, theyā€™ve been planning to run against Hillary, and have been running against her for years. They have very specific plans for how they think they can take down Hillary, and they have a base that they have trained to salivate at the very mention of her name.

They may well believe that shifting that hatred to Bernie will be easily accomplished (and they could be right) but they also know that his candidacy is more of a wild-card, and how potent the ā€œsocialistā€ attacks will be beyond the Republican base is not entirely clear. So, some of them may actually prefer ā€œthe devil they know.ā€ Just speculation, of course, as I cannot read minds, nor am I in the habit of believing anything that comes out of the mouths of GOP operatives.

Awwā€¦ sounds like youā€™re the one ā€œbutt hurtā€ because everyone knows Hillary is a grifter. Donā€™t worry. Liberals created America. Sit back and beg for a trickle. We got this.

Check out her proposal on financial regulation. Youā€™ll be surprised. She goes farther than Sanders.

Why would the GOP say theyā€™d rather face Sanders if they actually do wanna face him? How would showing your support for Sanders get the Dems to vote for him? Whatever the GOP wants the dems generally want the opposite so they must know that by telling everyone theyā€™d rather face Sanders, everyone would vote for Clinton, who they supposedly rather not face.
