Deplorable? Come on, girl, just say it.
That was the word that came to my mind. But without them saying it, people with think it, which is probably better.
No. “Deplorable” is not enough. What Trump has done from the beginning is despicable, anti-American, and well nigh on seditious. He finally acknowledges (sort of) the truth of Obama’s birth and completely omits any acknowledgement or apology for the fact that he has been WRONG for these many years and that he has done tremendous damage to the President, our political system and our country both here and abroad. And then he has the chutzpah to blame it all on Hillary.
To use an old Trump meme, in earlier days, a liar like Trump would be tied up, tarred, feathered and run out of town on rail. Given all his pathological lies and the damage he has caused, even that response would be too good for Trump… What a loooooser!
(Edited to complete content)
He hasn’t been wrong, he’s been lying. He knew that there was nothing there, but he also knew that he could gain notoriety and power by espousing this racist notion.
Its up to the media to stop Trump before he lies again!
Sorry, I cracked myself up with that.
She left out “leading in the polls on his way to the presidency.”
And properly so.
OK, taking a shot at question-framing here. I think the question is whether this could possibly help with the college-educated GOP-leaners, especially women, who’ve been resisting Trump because of his racism and other ickinesses. My guess is it won’t. I think Trump, flush with newfound hubris, has thrown the Conway approach out the window at least for now and thinks he can do and say anything and it’ll work. But as someone said about Katrina P. the other day, it works if you have a 20-second attention span. Most people can do better than that.
You are most correct. But minutes ago a “reporter” on MSNBC acknowledged that this morning Trump had duped the press and made fools of them. Ya’ think???!?
Sorry, don’t mind me.
I’m just running around the house looking for something with which to douse my flaming head.
Trump knows that being sickening and appalling and deceitful and duplicitous is what appeals to the American voter. It’s not at all odd he acts in this way. He must conduct himself in a fashion best suited to win the election. I think he has it nailed.
Because this nauseating spectacle has been around for so long, it’s easy to lose perspective.
Let’s assume for a moment that Trump had a good-faith basis to believe that President Obama was not born in the United States (a false assumption, but bear with me).
The proper step is to file a lawsuit asking for appropriate relief (ex. declaratory judgment that President Obama does not meet all the Constitutional qualifications to be President).
But that’s not what Trump did. Instead, he used lies, innuendo, and everything else at his disposal to keep this “story” in the news. And he knew he could, because there were enough racists and complicit media in this country to accomplish his goal.
Trump certainly owes the President and the United States an apology. But so do all the other people who participated in this racist farce.
I’ve never heard of this happening before, but after the stupid event the Trump people took the camera folks on a tour of the hotel while barring their editorial side, more or less. So the media folks did a quick conference call with their bureau chiefs and erased the tape in protest. No PR for Trump. Effectively a mass boycott—a small one, maybe, but the networks all stood together and told Trump to fuck himself. I like it.
One short paragraph? He could have gone on for hours.
You can blame republicans for this, too. They were all too happy to keep this issue alive. I just read an old article about birther Terry Lakin being sentenced to six months in jail for refusing to deploy to Afghanistan. At the end:
Republican lawmakers have continued to add fuel to the fire over the years.
Earlier this year, Sen. David Vitter, R-La., became the latest to challenge Obama’s birthplace, saying at a campaign event that he supported “conservative legal organizations and others who would bring that to court.”
In April, Arizona lawmakers introduced a proposal that would force candidates to produce birth certificates to appear on the ballot in 2012, a clear rebuke to Obama’s citizenship claim. Taitz said at least 10 other states are considering a similar statute, including Pennsylvania, Georgia and Missouri.
Sarah Palin, a potential 2012 presidential contender, said on a conservative radio talk show late last year that the public was “rightfully still making it an issue.”
Wow, that is fantastic.
And yet, the NYT headline will still be: “Clinton Camp Mired in Name Calling.”
Not to mention AP, Fox, Todd, Mitchell, Halperin, and the usual suspects…
CNN and Jake Tapper in need of chapstick:
“WATCH: CNN’s Jake Tapper calls Trump’s ‘birther’ speech what it is: ‘It’s a political Rick roll’”
Right now politico came out with an article on the state of the race based on recent polling. I agree that Hillary is leading Trump 272 - 266 in electoral votes. Trump needs ONE state to flip to be jn the lead. Forget predictions. That’s fact that’s reality. Hillary has to stop the bleeding right now. Her illness was not the issue. It was the campaign’s decision to not reveal her diagnosis. This lead into a narrative about her secrecy. This in my view is why her polling has slipped.
Right around the time of the DNC convention an unnamed Democrat Florida delegate stated Obama would do a great job and pass the baton to Hillary. Then hope she doesn’t fck it up til November 8th. Well Hillary unfortunately may have done that. Still plenty of time to recover. But as I said she needs to stop the bleeding right now. If Trump gains that one state in polling and Hillary is shown to be losing. Well it’s just going to feed into Trumps narrative. The GOP enthusiasm is back.
I will say you better start preparing for the worst case scenario. I had a legal case once and my very good attorney said he always prepares for the worst outcome.
