Hillary’s rare gaffes stand out only because she usually sounds just the right tone, as here. No criticism of Sanders, being disturbed by what happened rather than who did it, and reassuring all that the Democrats will be united when it matters. Spot on.
“Ruckus”?
Well, that makes it sound just plain fun!
What a classy, presidential response.
Can someone check in with Jeff Weaver to see if Clinton has the right to feel disturbed?
No disagreement here with what she said in response to questions being asked of her, but the less said by her or her campaign, the better. And don’t sic the Big Dog to come out on this matter either. It’s clear enough for most people to see without her adding any comments that will redound back on her later by potential Bernie supporters, after the dust has settled. She still needs many of the Bernie’s folks to come out and vote for her, and many will, but alienating them when they are in a heat of passion or their last throes at this time, is not necessary. Even they can see the bad press they’re getting and probably see the writing on the wall…Either that, or they are blind.
Shhhhh, stay above it, lady.
Agreed. That’s why I think she struck the right chord here. Acknowledge the absolute obvious, any Democrat (adult) should find this behavior disturbing, but was careful to pivot to unity. That’s exactly what she should do, stay on the message of unity. Let Sanders and his most rabid supporters continue to reveal themselves for what they are. Anecdotally speaking, I suspect a great deal of Sanders supporters are growing as disillusioned with his campaign as Clinton supporters. How’s the saying go… The higher the monkey climbs the more he shows his ass.
Throwing chairs around, yelling angrily and loudly, not allowing anyone to speak, calling a United States Senator a bitch is not violent?
Not as much fun as a donnybrook or a rumpus, though. But much less fun than a melee or fracas, those being French words and all. And you know how blase the French are.
Where would you rate “kerfuffle” on the fun scale?
It is disturbing and if Jeff Weaver and Bernie Sanders were adults, they would accept responsibility instead of deflecting, and then move on.
Between “dust-up” and “feud’n’, fuss’n’ 'n fight’n”
“The Sanders campaign has said it condemns any violence and threats in general, but called the reports of violence at Saturday’s convention overblown.”
“Hey, did anyone get killed? No? I rest my case!”
I continue to be impressed by how much she’s improved since 2008. She sounds strong, her staff has pursued a good strategy, they’ve all stuck to the message for the most part, etc Even with Sen. Sanders doing better than expected, they’ve never panicked or done anything rash. If anything, her surrogates have been more of an issue than anything in the campaign, and even there, there’s nothing that’ll do lasting damage.
It’s disturbing. She’s concerned. Yup, she’s ready to be president. They’re always expressing concern.
Maybe they were just being “rapscallions?”
What disturbs me is not the degree of whatever that took place, it is the failure of most or all commenters, media and individual, to emphasize the underlying cause: the Sanders supporters were wildly uninformed and misinformed about what was taking place. And a lot of that was because the Sanders campaign deliberately fired them up with outrageous falsehoods.
Agreed. Since the incident in Las Vegas, for the first time, I think I may be seeing the beginning of the Democrat analog to the Tea Party.
Democratic leaders, other than Hillary Clinton, need to stand up and push back on this nonsense.
The Washington Post had it exactly right when it stated this:
“He has indulged and encouraged hyperbolic feelings that the country is badly adrift, that most of the nation agrees with a left-wing agenda but is trapped in a corrupt system, and that nothing but a political revolution will do.”
I have seen this with Republicans for most of my life. Grover Norquist always talks about the popularity of low taxes and cutting taxes. However, what they and he always leave out, is that people want services too.
Bernie and his supporters are the opposite. Sure Americans love “Free stuff”, and roads, and bridges and other services, but they really do hate taxes. And debt.
It’s time Democrats start calling him for his trillions and trillions of new spending and logically following, higher taxes or higher debt or both, as well as his other unicorn policies.
