Discussion: Clinton Calls Planned Parenthood Videos A 'Concerted Attack' On Abortion Rights

Discussion for article #238713

She said she hoped the footage would not hamper the organization’s efforts to provide women’s health services, particularly to low-income communities.

ā€œPlanned Parenthood still remains a very important part of the whole healthcare delivery system, particularly but not exclusively for poor women,ā€ she said. ā€œI strongly believe that we need to make sure it can do that well into the future.ā€

That, frankly, is the more important point she made.

Clinton called the campaign an ā€œattackā€ on the reproductive healthcare provider, as well as on women’s right to an abortion.

Ya think?

It really is a vast right wing conspiracy.

Edit to add:

icymi - this is Planned Parenthood’s response to Fred Upton chairman of the House Energy and Commerce and it’s beauty.

Fertility clinic’s on fire. A 5-year-old and a jar full of fertilized eggs are trapped in there, but you only have time to rescue one. Which do you rescue?

I’m guessing that there are people only vaguely tuning in to this issue and the right-wing noise machine gets most of their attention. So to reach those who only hear the part about fetuses and abortion and their connection to PP, the obvious must be stated. Sad for all of us.

Can I rescue the cute little puppy that’s tied up outside instead of making this choice?

I have always believed that Hillary is capable of making clear, honest, to-the-point statements about important political issues as they arise. I continue to believe that.

But she just never does. Ever.

And it takes her four days to venture to say blah-blah-blah,

Actually, if one picks and chooses statements from a speech, it’s not surprising that one would think that.

Especially if one is a card-carrying member of the MSM.

Yup, basically the thought experiment I always use, only with a baby in a crib at one end of a burning house and an embryo in a petri dish at the other. It inevitably either gets the person I’m arguing with to say, ā€œOhhh…okay, there’s a difference,ā€ or gets anybody listening to such person insist they couldn’t choose to say, ā€œThat’s insane.ā€ Very effective tactic.

I don’t like the tone of your remarks.

Makes you feel real supported and truly identifies the nature of the ā€˜problem.’

I wish she had ā€œchecked the factsā€ so she could have been more specific about the organization and people behind the video. They need to be called out. We know what happened when Kerry ignored calling out the specific people re: swift boating.

Thanks for posting this link. It would be great if some of our media types would a) read this, and b) closely question Rep. Upton about how he feels about these tactics. The GOP base won’t care - for them the ends justify the means - but it make help bring the crazy further to the surface. Every bit helps.

BTW, I’d also force every GOP candidate for every office to go oin the record as to whether they support wide availability of birth control…

The false video (it is so heavily edited it cannot be considered valid) has already done it’s job, to whip up the ā€œfrothing at the mouthā€ Evangelical and Orthodox Catholic base.
The Republicans actually ā€œrushedā€ it out before they had all the Echo Chamber and Congress-critters lined up with their talking points and A.L.E.C.-written laws. They HAD to rush it out to try to counter the massive affect ā€œThe Trumpsterā€ is having on the electorate.
It did not really work and they are endlessly bitching about it now.

But choosing one over the other doesn’t by definition mean the other lacks value and is not alive. Choice to save one life or the other is made on the battlefield all the time, it doesn’t mean the life that is chosen not to save lacks value.

That is because every statement first has to processed by campaign strategist, pollsters and focus groups. That is what happens when your only thing that matters is getting elected.

I didn’t say it does; we’ve had many joyful pregnancy announcements in my family. But the simple fact is that there’s a significant difference between an embryo and a baby.
