Discussion: Clinton Calls For 'Common Sense Gun Safety Reform' After Orlando Massacre

Once again, the death toll would have been much, much lower if the gunman had not been able to so easily get a military-style assault weapon. The weapon of choice for spree shooters.

Nobody fucking needs an AR-15 or an AK-47. It is not a hunting weapon; it is not a weapon for home self-defense. It has no legitimate use other than mass murder.

It is absolutely insane that it should be so easy to obtain one.

And, not a goddamn thing will change about that in the wake of this obscene massacre.

The insane, fact-free ramblings of gun nuts I’ve had to listen to in the last 24 hours sickens me. “Florida has strict gun control, that’s why this happened.” No, you numbskull, it does NOT.

But, we WILL have laws about who can use which restrooms goddamit! Because THAT is the REAL threat to our communities.

How could have gun laws prevented/lessened this?

Ban ban ammunition clips larger than 10 rounds.

Ban the AR-15 and others like it, which is the weapon of choice for terrorists and other deranged people intent on mass violence.

100% universal background checks on gun sales and ammunition sales.

If you are being interviewed by the FBI there should be another level of background check that goes deeper than the standard - perhaps require interviews with employers and/or family.

If you are on the TERROR WATCH LIST - you should be banned from buying a gun and ammunition.

Require anyone who wants to own a gun to go through gun safety courses, pass a mental competency exam.

If you are serious about asking how to prevent/lessen the impact of these types of events, these steps would work.

Exactly. When terrorists used our easy access to airline cockpits w/weapons against us on 9/11 we strengthened the means to block access to the cockpits and weapons on planes. Now the terrorists are using against us our easy access everywhere to weapons of serial destruction. So what do we do? Make it even easier to obtain and use these weapons against us.

Time to clean House and Senate,

Rational response is so very, very boring. The assassins of democracy and critical thinking that constitute our nation’s press will, as usual, mostly ignore objective reality to report on the controversy. Because objective consideration of the facts is not in their job description.“ Oh, and also profits.

Oh yes , they started already. A letter to the Orlando Sentinel this morning calling for the ban on all concealed weapons.
This is the mentality of some of our fellow citizens, when the blood on the floor of the nightclub is yet to dry.We need armed gun battles every day because freedom

The Letter:

What can we do?

The horrific mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub leads to the question: What can we do?

I call on Congress to declare war on ISIS and give our military the funds required to prosecute the war on ISIS’ home turf.

I call on the president to abandon his position that disarming citizens will prevent further attacks or denying a state of war exists, and lead the nation on both fronts: in the Middle East and here at home.

I call on all state legislatures: Lift the restrictions on concealed carry in all gathering places. Two armed patrons could have ended this attack early, saving dozens of lives.

I call on all clubs, bars, stadiums, malls, schools and churches to provide armed security, initially drawing on volunteers from our veterans and militias, to protect against similar assaults.

I call on citizens to arm themselves, train and carry concealed weapons. Having been made the front line in this new type of war, citizens must now be the first responders.

… I’m one of those folks who I think is fairly tolerant of other’s points of view. I can go for months, years, and be perfectly fine with the fact that my family consists of Republican brothers and my Tea Party Fox News addicted parents, my neighbor (nice guy) is a libertarian gun collector, and most of our neighbors are either Libertarian or Republicans or very religious or all 3.

Having said that, I’m wondering how many other folk out there like me have just about had it up to fucking here with the bullshit about fucking semi-automatic assault weapons, large capacity magazines, background checks, tracking mechanisms, research into gun violence, and lack of mental screening for owning mass quantities of weapons intended for murder.

I’m starting to reach Tea Party levels of ANGER towards f*ckers who try to sell me some bullshit about how their freedom to fondle weapons that can kill 30-50 people at a time, trumps ANYONE ELSE’S right to not feel like if someone pisses one of these ammosexuals off they’ll go nuts and shoot 100 people before anyone can do anything about it.

I actually saw one of these bastards try to argue someone with a SHOTGUN could mow down 50 innocent lives, same as someone with an AR15. Good freaking lord! The stupidity!!!

We need laws to rein in these freaks. And we need them NOW. And if they don’t happen soon, I’m thinking there WILL be a backlash against the gun freaks out there, whether “they have the guns” or not. You know who else “has guns”? The Army. And they also have tanks, jets, missiles, drones, and other weapons that make their semi automatic large clip assault rifle look like a limp squirrel d!ck in an elephant and blue whale boner convention. Their BS about “standing up to the oppressive government” is about as stupid as an ant trying to stop a nuclear weapon. Idiots.

So fuck them. And fuck the folks who enable all of this violence, the Republican and the NRA.

A couple thoughts on your letter: I doubt it was composed by the sender. The parallelism, the ringing repetition of the word “call,” is a crude device but beyond most people. I imagine you get the damn thing in your membership packet from the NRA, and it’s on their website, suitable for use on the many occasions when a mass shooting makes people question the current laws even a little. And it’s the most cynical and yet crazy exploitation of the mere existence of terrorism that I’ve yet seen. In order to sell guns, we’re talking about turning every public place, every school, every church, into a place bristling with firearms and ready for combat at any moment. It’s fucking insane. But it’s all in the service of moving product. I hope that speaks for itself because there are just no words for the enormity of it.

We should stay strictly Orginalist on interpreting the 2nd Amendment.

The only guns covered should be those with capabilities comparable to weapons available at the time of writing.

The Founding Fathers were clearly considering basic muskets/rifles and pistols.

They would not have imagined anything capable of rapidly firing hundreds of rounds.

Wonderful news for the gun industry. Biggest mass shooting in U.S. history. (so far…) NRA tweaks gun nut paranoia with 2dA. rants. Pavloved gun nuts mob gun shops for yet more weapons and ammunition. Ruger stock jumps again. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell say much and do nothing. Death goes on.

Bonus: Copycats plan how they can get into the Guinness Record Book by beating the body count.

Single issue gun voters won’t change. The R’s get their vote along with the rest of the easily manipulated zero information single issue voter lemmings. The NRA demands all or nothing. Americans are really tired of learning this lesson. All those chromolly barrels and receivers will make fine rails for America’s high speed trains.

From the letter in the paper linked above. Two patrons at a bar at 2:00 in the morning?!! The cop outside the club couldn’t end it!

Effing moron. We have got to keep pushing back against this crap and keep fighting for responsible gun control. There are more of us that feel this way than the well-funded NRA and its supporters.
