Discussion: Clinton Blasts Trump: He's Taking GOP From 'Morning In America' To Midnight

Cherished Memories

In January of 2009, my wife and I joined over one million of our fellow citizens on Washington Mall and bore witness to history as we watched the inauguration of Senator Barack Hussein Obama as the first African-American President of the United States. There was joy on every face.

In January of 2013, we again joined over a million of our fellow citizens and watched the inauguration of a beloved president for a second term after a decisive victory at the polls. Happiness was everywhere.

Daydreams

In January of 2017, my wife and I will join over one million of our fellow citizens on Washington Mall and bear witness to history as we watch the inauguration of Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton as the first woman President of the United States. There will be joy on every face.

In January of 2021, we will join over a million of our fellow citizens and watch the inauguration of a beloved president for a second term after a decisive victory at the polls. Happiness will be everywhere.

Today, our daydreams are one giant step closer to joining our cherished memories.

What momentous times are these.

(Full Disclosure: Yes, I wrote this earlier, actually at 2 am in the morning after the New York primary. I vowed then to save it until the night of her acceptance. This posting is part of my wifeā€™s and my celebration of this moment of history. I know that many of you share our thoughts.)

Was it good for you, fellow TPMers? It was good for me. I was at a party at the local Dem headquarters and weā€™re PSYCHED. Plus which, who comes out to our little Philly burbs jerkwater town but a camera crew for French TV? And who was among the interviewees? Bien sur, cā€™etait moi! This was a kickass convention, cats and kitties, just awesome. Are you happy to be Democrats? Thought so!

The talking heads were praising the speech and then Nicole Wallace had to bring me down with a whine that Hillary offered NOTHING to Republicans after Obama had brought them into the fold with his speech last night. I got up and came back to my computer .

For a man to wear that suit heā€™d pretty much need to be Col. Sanders or Liberace.

That was probably the best political convention I can remember. I donā€™t normally enjoy listening to a lot of speeches but so many stellar speakers!! Made the Rā€™s convention look even more sad and tacky and mean-spirited. And the balloon drop was so much more spectacular than the Rā€™s.

No, but Iā€™m happy enough to become a Democrat after 35 years of being an unaffiliated independent. True.
And, the convention really was great, wasnā€™t it? I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw and heard. Together!

Canā€™t wait for Hillary to turn the debates into the de-baits and trumpet goes off the rails.

Honest to God, the conventions really spoke to where the parties are now. The Republicans are lost in nihilism and blind rage. The Democrats have their heads screwed on straight and are at least trying to work on real solutions. And Hillary has really grown as a candidate and public servant, and it shows. And allow me to say to all the GOP folks out there, BRING IT BEOTCHES WE WILL DESTROY YOU. But with love. Always love. Especially if you surrender cowering before us NOW.

Amen, brother, preach it!

The message that I heard was Love Trumps Hate, which in everyoneā€™s mind should also say, Love, or Trumpā€™s Hate: you will decide. Rock on Dems! Iā€™m with Her! Woo-Hoo!

Iā€™ve never been anything but an unaffiliated independent, for 42 years. This is the first time Iā€™ve ever thought a party represented me sufficiently to consider joining. Iā€™m going to have to think long and hard on that one, because Iā€™ve always been an independent because I simply donā€™t believe in parties. I believe in voting for the best person for the job. But dang, it has been a very long time since I came across a Republican Iā€™d vote for for any office.

Agree. I didnā€™t want to hear a laundry list. I wanted to hear why she was running, and that she provided.

And yes, she looked good in that white outfit, her face looked fresh, and she projected well-- strong, firm, but not stern or humorless.

Slight edit-- and thatā€™s a wrap!

Hilary showed tonight that she is smart enough, tough enough and compassionate enough to lead this country. Iā€™ve always thought she was up to the job and now maybe the rest of the world knows it, too? She was calm, convincing and shared a lot of personal stuff tonight about her mother that I had never heard before. Iā€™ll be proud to vote for her as my president and work to make that happen as a volunteer.

I love Brian Williams talking about Donald Trump being an opponent/force the world has never seen before. Really? Heā€™s a con man. Heā€™s just running a scam on the RNC, the Palin People and apparently the media, too.

And I love that the Republican political hack on the MSNBC panel was saying that Hillary didnā€™t reach out to Republicans like President Obama did last night. Why should she? All that is left of the Republican Party are a bunch of bullies and cowards. They donā€™t want to join a party of positive, forward thinking Americans.

Independents will have to decide which candidate respects their dreams, represents their values and represents their idea of what American should be.

The Democratic Party has moved on (along with the Silent Majority) to a new, more progressive sort of America. They are sick of the incompetence and negativity of the conservative ideology which produced Cheney, Palin and Trump.

The Democratic Party is the only party that now encompasses the American Dream, true patriotism and the common good. Americans know we are better than Trump and his Skinhead America. I donā€™t think they want their children even watching them much less letting them dictate what they can and cannot do.

The good and sane people of this country donā€™t want a ruling class. They want their democracy and a middle class standard of living. They donā€™t want guns ruling our streets or religious fanatics telling us where we can go to the bathroom, who we can marry or ban birth control.

They want allies in the world not Japan and South Korea going nuclear. They donā€™t want Russia taking bigger pieces of Europe and propping up other dictators.

ISIL is made up of bullies just like Trump and the world knows it. The few sane people that may be left in the GOP need to choose our republic over partyā€¦and a fascist dictatorship. Their way of life is as much as risk as everyone elseā€™s.

Hillary will save our republic and break the gridlock if we give her a Democratic majority in both the House and Senate. Nothing less is acceptable at this point. Give the country what it needs instead of what one man wants.

Gen John Allen handled that role with aplomb.

He made Trump look like a wimp. Our side came out of our shells and demanded that we be respected as Americans and wonā€™t be cast as leapers any longer.

Did you do any of the interview in French?
(Double CoolPoints if so!)

That was a surprise. The Dems completely co-opted the sane national security angle from the GOP.

And Gen. Allen? He looked like you could light a match on that mug!

It was a stroke of genius to wear white. It favored her coloring and represents something good to everyone. It sets up the scenario of the debates to comeā€¦good versus evil?
